We've seen it all, from small apartments to huge resort-like homes, and my question to you all is, which do you prefer, irrespective of wealth or social status, if you could buy anyone of the above, namely;Townhouses,Condominiums,Apartments, Single Homes, or Resorts;which would you buy for you and your family to live in? and why? :)

I would prefer a single home if I had the means. I would then sound proof the home so that I do not hear outer noises. I am currently living in an apartment building with very thin walls; I have two hostile neighbors that I could live without. In the future, I will always look out for accommodation with plenty of space and fewer persons.

Nice suggestion, I think that sound proofing a home is certainly the smart thing to do, say, it's sad that technology hasn't gotten to the point where odor, that is, smoke, can be blocked from entering your home even when you have your windows and doors open. I think the you shouldn't have to suffer smelling certain things because you live close to a person, that's why I would also agree with you when you say that would look for an accommodation with plenty space.

For a permanent home, there's no question in my mind... I'd go for the single detached home every time. I've lived in an apartment with many other people in 3 floors of other units and hated it. I've lived in a duplex and that was even worse. I haven't lived in a condo, but that would probably be my second choice.

In addition to being able to hear other occupants, there's always the thought of fire starting in one of the other units.

Any of these options would be okay for me if it's a summer house or vacation property, though.

For me, it's a clear answer: a single home with at least an acre of land, in a gated community or very safe neighborhood, in the suburbs, over-looking the sea.

Why? Condos require you to see your neighbors and condo-staff every time you leave your condo. Condos can get noisy when it comes to construction and loud neighbors. You can have a neighbor from hell that likes to build things or throw a Justine Bieber-worthy party every weekend. On the other had, I may want to throw a crazy wild party, but will end up feeling guilty if I do because of the noise. The same goes for townhouses.

Why subject yourself to headaches and restrictions if you have the money to live where ever you want.

I live in a city so I'd prefer a nice big apartment or condo. If I were in a different area I'd like a single family home. I have lived in all types of buildings...I would really live in any type if I had to. Always grateful to have a roof over my head :)

I would personally prefer to buy a single home, because of privacy, the world is so crazy this days, I would rather live a private life.

I would prefer to stay in a resort than anything else. I think it is best to stay a little far from city to stay away from the noise and external problems. I would love to have a resort that is near a jungle as it would be quite calm.

yea I agree about the condo's. I did what you said and bought a nice single in a remote area. It was anyway when I bought it. With time the area has built up quite a bit, it is still nice but all the downsides of neighborhood living has arrived. On the pluse side my valuation has doubled. I find myself right now trying decide if I should sell now and go or sit a bit longer. It is a tough call. But I tell you what i will not buy a condo or townhouse for me to live in. No way on earth.

I'd go for a single home like I am now. I've lived in all the others aswell but I think if your going to settle down and invest UN a property to live and maybe bring a family up in, then a single detached home is about your best bet.
