As it was expected, right after the grand jury ruling that Darren Wilson would not be indicted, protests erupted in Ferguson and they turned out to be worse than they were in August. A number of police cars were burned, businesses set ablaze and chaos still reigns on the streets.

The shame of it all is a small number of opportunists are out there only to loot and cause trouble.

This was completely expected, how weren't the police mobilized and ready to avoid this situation?
They had months to prepare and the courts could even warn them before announcing the verdict...

I agree that this was expected, but at the same time they might have not expected so many people, so it's always hard to predict exactly what's going to happen.

I fear that last night was nothing compared to what we may see tonight. There is a Tumblr page with information about protests scheduled to take place across the country, and even one in London for this evening. I think everyone knew that last night was going to happen and from the live feeds I saw it looked as though law enforcement was as prepared as they could be.

You know it is going to be bad when the president holds a news conference right after the non indictment was read. It is sad all around and I don't understand how it happened. Keep the Brown family in your thoughts.

What is going down in Ferguson has left the category of demonstrations and entered that of rioting. Dozens of private business are being looted and destroyed, at least one police car has been set ablaze, and shots are being fired. I fear more is coming tonight.

To anyone in that area: stay safe.

Initially, I was surprised Gov. Nixon ordered the National Guard to help with the potential rioters. I told friends not to expect any rioting. The parents of Michael Brown begged for calm and peaceful protests. Then all of the African American popular media urged young people not to engage in rioting or any craziness. So, when CNN reported on live TV the horror of a burning car I was taken aback. I had not expected that type of violence so early in the evening. If there were going to be any mischief then I would have expected it to be overnight and not during prime time.

Court systems do not work very well at all. They always don't do things the way they should. I just tend ignore the courts when they make a decision for someone. I was not thrilled that they let the officer go.

There is indeed being some criticism leveled at Gov. Nixon over not deploying Guard units on day one. I think there is something to that as it could have prevented massive property damage. The last I heard he's ordering more troops in. Time will tell if this thing burns out on its own or the authorities have to take further steps.

After seeing a police car being flipped, unless the army marches in the order will never be reestablished, let's face it, destruction won't lead anywhere.
