Say Goodbye to the mellow and pleasant atmosphere at Starbucks!
Once I had a power outage in my neighborhood. That was more than ten years ago. I had to take my laptop up the road to the local Starbucks. I was in grad school, and a paper was due. It was so pleasant and peaceful there. I began to notice others from the neighborhood stopping by to charge up cell phone and laptops. Families were welcomed.

Just now, I heard that Starbucks may begin offering beer and wine to some of its stores that are open nights.
What Starbucks isn't open at night? I can hardly count how many times I've met friends there after work or on Saturdays. My aunt's bridge group occasionally meets there to get directions before they travel on to another person's home.

The atmosphere has always been good-humored and mellow. Now, what will happen. Otis the Mayberry town drunk is not to be expected. It may be Henry the raging crazy. You know him because every community has one. He is the high flying attorney nobody likes and nobody wants to see him around. He will stop by my Starbucks on his way home and cause some sort of commotion!

Doesn't seem like too bad of an idea as I imagine it may bring it a bit more of the social drinker versus the more likely obnoxious ones you'd find at a bar or pub. I can't see why too many people outside of Starbucks initial consumer base essentially coming in for a beer there relative to a few other local establishments. Then again, who knows, right? I'm really curious to see how it plays out.

It is so sad when some changes happen in life. Is there any way you can convince the Starbucks in your community to remain alcohol free? A community vote has been able to work magic where I come from. We all need an oasis that we can go to when we need to regroup. I hope that you do not have to say goodbye to this place you are so fond of.

I don't see it as a bad idea either, drinking a beer and some wine can fit in the Starbucks atmosphere in my opinion and might even attract more people there.

Just because they offer beer and wine doesn't necessarily mean it will turn into a rowdy saloon. I could see them offering some good microbrews for the later hours and therefore maximize profits at a location that otherwise wouldn't see income at that time of day.

There is a Starbucks in Seattle that sells alcohol and it still seems to be a very mellow place. I found it by accident one day when I wanted to venture in and get a cup of coffee. I thought it was very strange that there was a bar in the place and I actually stepped back out the door to make sure I had entered into Starbucks...yep, it was a Starbucks!

Alcohol sales can be a very profitable addition to a business.

The best way to keep the riff-raff out is to charge pretty high prices and often a cover charge and even a minimum. Of course I doubt they'd do the latter 2 things.

Or they can specialize in high end designer drinks, just like their coffee. Nobody is going to want to go to Starbucks just to have a beer. They should make the drinks elegant and fancy. It would be a nice place to spend an evening if they keep it classy.
