Should the U.S. Government be investing in gold?

    Should the U.S. government be investing at least 5% of its assets in gold. The U.S. Sovereign fund, which controls $138,000,000,000, is primarily invested in financial assets intended to return a profit which will then be utilized for the common good of the American people. The real question is whether or not gold is such a speculative investment as to not be worth the risk. After all the U.S. Government already controls 8,133 tons of gold, which is seven times more than any other country on Earth.

    Do you have any reason to think Gold and commodities are not part of their holdings? I can´t imagine a fund that large not being hugely diversified unless their is some law that prevents it. Also, if the gov´t is holding that much gold, then it is an investment.
