Hi everyone, just joined! Invest in the long term here, the ultimate goal would be to gather a decent dividend income which would allow me to live a much more relaxed life, working on when I feel like it. Needless to say, my strategy mainly involves buying larger stable companies with a decent dividend history. Looking forward to this!

    Hello,

Your strategy sounds fairly similar to my own. With one exception. :) I am willing to look at smaller companies if they have awesome dividends and have either been stable for the last few years or their stock looks really undervalued and I think they are in the process of a turn around. To each, his own though!

Ohh I don't shy away from smaller companies either, but the basis for my portfolio (75% or more) is in larger ones. Small ones are fun but often very volatile in the long run so I prefer a more cautious approach.

I wonder how much do we really need to have invested to allow ourselves to live from dividends, that a whole different game right?

Depends on your spending habits. Looks to be around 300k euros at the very minimum for me but honestly that would only allow a very basic lifestyle. So probably somewhere between 400 and 500k in euros would be the real goal for me.
