What is one political promise that you wish a candidate would uphold when getting elected into office? It does not have to be a specific promise that a specific candidate makes, but maybe one that you have heard time and time again, and no candidate seems to fulfill it.

One promise that never materializes here in the UK is shorted hospital waiting times. As you probably all know, healthcare in the UK is free but it is by no means instant. There are always waiting lists and some people can go months waiting for important surgery. Despite the politician's promises, nothing ever improves.

If there was one promise I wish politicians would keep it is the promise to cut the size of government. A lot of politicians say they want to but it rarely materializes. Thd government keeos growing year after year. Obviously thats not sustainable.

It's sick that politicians keep backing down on their promises and people still keep voting them in the next elections. I have no specific promises that I would like to be kept, but rather I vote for people who have kept most of theirs or then go with someone who hasn't been elected previously to see what he can do.

Jesus, does everybody think the President is some kind of God who can pass any law he wants to at the blink of an eye?? There's Congress, the Senate, each state also has individual laws. I'm talking purely about the US here. I mean, yes, some candidates deliberately lie, but I do believe that there are candidates who genuinely wanted to do what they promised, but when they get to power, they're blocked by Congress.

We certainly have plenty of politicians that think they have the power to control far more aspects of peoples lives then is appropriate. I get a kick out of it when some stuffed shirt wants to make decisions on what is best for me, like whether I should drink soda, eat junk food or shovel snow in a defined hourly time. It is all laughable and much of it is a waste of everyone's time. I think alot of it is that old game called pass the buck- someone has to DO something about this! I am sure everyone has heard or played some version of this game at one time or another.

The kids are too fat someone should DO something about it, Johnny can't read DO something. For the politicians it is like a no win situation, no matter what someone will be complaining about it. I think thats why we end up with so much double speak and wasted resources. It is all about looking good to whatever group is interested in the moment. Talking about stuff and ultimately doing nothing to productive one way or another.

I agree. Everyone has something to complain about no matter what the president does.

From time to time a few politicians have said a thing or two about tax cuts but once they are in office, nothing is done. I'd like to see the rich taxed as they are in France [75% tax]. I don't trust politicians though so when I hear them making promises I don't expect them to keep them.

Why would you want to see someone else's money taxed at such a high rate? Do you think they are your own personal piggy bank? Do you not think they work hard for their money and thus should be able to keep most of it? I've never understood people who are so gung ho about taking other peoples money away from them? How is that not greed?

Wow. That is a long list because political candidates promise so much but once they are in office, these promises change or become diluted once pass as a legislation because they are working with elected officials, many of whom disagree with their politics. I wish political candidates actually tackle failing schools in the nation. Most of the time, these issues are left to the state and local governments, many of them being interwoven in the ploy to keep certain schools failing while taking millions of dollars and investing them elsewhere for wealthier sections in a state. Having quality schools will more than likely lead to populations of intelligent students who will eventually represent the next generation of voters and employees in the country.
