I've watched a CNN documentary about China's anti-satellite weapons which they have already tested on their own satellite before. The United States is the major satellite producer in the world and has the most satellites rotating globally than any other country in the world. Our free GPS is served to us by the US military through these satellites. If China has the ability to destroy other country's satellites, then they are a country to watch out for because they have this power to outwin any other country. The armed forces are not lowering their guard on this because this will definitely bring in war if satellites are attacked. And with war means major economic chaos. Your views on this?
A quick link to said weapons would be pretty nice. Pretty much any country with a modern military is capable of bringing down SOME satellites. Keep in mind that a lot of satellites (like the GPS ones for example) orbit in GEO and not in LEO, which means A LOT more distance to cover and a much smaller deviation in the satellite's trajectory needed to make the weapons miss.
My query would be, have they issued any threat in that regard?...or maybe they are planning to use this in their favor, like i say and always say, when one has too much power at their disposal, they tend to do the worst of things...what a folly!
These weapons are nothing new and China is not the only one who has them or is developing them. Nothing to be worried about here, just another case of countries advancing in the defence sector.
Shooting down a satellite would be an act of war and I doubt that China is ready to fight the U.S. So while they might have the weapons to get the job done, they won't use them unless until there's a third world war. But by then shooting satellites wouldn't matter much I think. I believe all this talk about anti-satellite weapons is more about prestige, nothing more.
China is definitely a country to watch out because it's huge, but I like to call it the sleeping giant because they will not make war with anyone if no one steps on their toes. So leave them be and we will have no problems with China.
I think that China and the US is one serious financial disagreement away from a war. That's just me, though.
The show that featured the documentary is called '60 minutes' on CNN so I'm guessing there's a link somewhere in their website. I'll get back to you guys once I have the link.
I was looking online and even in youtube and didn't found the video. Either cases, if it appeared on 60 minutes it has to have some credibility, it's a good show, but those are just defenses that are not intended to be used?
