Iran has launched an anti-Isis cartoon competition, inviting submissions from around the world which mock the militant group and the atrocities it has committed.

Organisers said selected works would be displayed at four cultural centres across Tehran, and that a winner would be announced on 31 May.

According to the state-run IRNA news agency, artists were briefed by Iran’s House of Cartoon to focus on “the crimes committed by the Islamic State (Isis)”.

Mohammad Habibi, the executive secretary of the contest, said 280 works had been selected from 800 submissions, including entries from over 40 countries such as Brazil, Australia and Indonesia.

Mr Habibi told the Tehran Times that some foreign cartoonists were attending the contest, but that they had been forced to travel under pseudonyms due to security concerns.

I don't know what to say about this. This is borderline tasteless and disheartening. Sure it would be great to poke fun at these guys but look at some of the art work that is being submitted. Not cool to look at. Blood and selfie bombs?

I agree. There's nothing to poke fun at. In fact ISIS doesn't deserve to get any attention at all from the media. The only attention they should be getting is on the battlefield. Locate and kill the savages. Considering the fact that ISIS has sympathizers everywhere, the Iranians should expect retaliation. And it's innocent Iranians who'll pay for this.

This won't end well mark my words, I just wish another idea other than this would have been worked on..one that doesn't involve war and the warlords behind it... I smell retaliation a mile away!

Cartoons ... yah, that should stop ISIS.

Soon or later the world is going to have to get real and build a working strategy to stop these thugs.

The more I think about it, it is childish. You make a cartoon competition to address the war against Isis. That's pathetic.

An anti-ISIS cartoon competition? Have they forgotten what happened to the last guy who drew anti-ISIS cartoons?

The organizers have definitely put the innocent Iranian citizens at risk for doing such an action. It's like putting a time bomb on yourself for that matter. I hope it won't be the case, but knowing how heartless the ISIS extremists are, they surely won't take this matter lightly. The organizers should have thought about it first before deciding to pull off an act like that. I could only shake my head in worry and dismay.

When Iran is against ISIS this tells a lot about the chaos reigning in the region and that how ISIS is a cancer to everyone. I am just surprised how they manage to exist with all the world against them.

Well, they're going to be mad, that's for sure. They might even attempt something as retaliation. People might indeed get hurt. But on the bright side, people won't fear them as much, and those thinking of joining will certainly think twice about the ostensibly noble goal ISIL put forth.
