One view suggests Twitter's biggest problem -- http://www.cnbc.com/id/102746381 -- lacks communities but I don't agree. Immediacy and dissemination of news is what makes $TWTR and Periscope unique. The usual search engines are lacking, although the recent deal with Google may help. If someone want community, let 'em go to Facebook $FB. What say you?

Only thing that I can say is that I've never used twitter and never will. I have checked on some pages there, but never even considered making an account.
I simply don't see the point in it, the 140 character limit is just ridiculous and makes it impossible to say anything meaningful.

I have a Twitter account, but I rarely use it, it was never engaging to me. I was not aware of that character limit, but I guess that if we want to write a lot we need to use Facebook? :) There are just too many social networks!

I'm also another one that has a Twitter account but hardly ever uses it. Ivr always preferred facebook because of the interaction. On Twitter I've always felt it's like talking to yourself.

I also have a twitter account but I too rarely use it. In fact I haven't even opened it at all this year. I still prefer using facebook because I find it more personable and most of my friends use it. I don't log on to it on a daily basis though.

Wow, I'm surprised at the responses so far. Twitter is really good for immediacy, breaking news (e.g., the hunt for the escaped convicts in NY) and fun. For jollies, here are a couple of ideas.

I watch some different segments of Bloomberg, CNBC and Fox Business during the course of a day. On Twitter I follow the general accounts of @Bloomberg, @CNBC, and @FoxBusiness. I get early warning notices of upcoming show segments. Most (if not all) hosts have their own accounts and I follow some of those. For example, I enjoy the repartee of the traders on CNBC's Halftime Report and Fast Money. Ibid for some hosts on the other business networks. And if you haven't seen @jonfortt (the tech guy on Squawk on the Street) on Twitter's Periscope... he Is a hoot.

I watch news on @CNN and @FoxNews, and additionally follow some hosts on those networks. I'll add in the local TV channels' accounts and particularly add in their weather folks. The local NWS is active on Twitter when weather alerts are breaking. Twitter is way ahead of TV news and newspaper web sites.

Sports, politics... and a bunch of friends and I hang on Twitter while watching the live wildearth.tv safari drives.

Not to belabor the subject, but it works for me (@baudwalk). In fact, that's how I found about this board..

FWIW, I also use The Social Radio -- http://www.thesocialradio.com/ -- app to listen to Twitter when driving or in a position that is inappropriate to look at my device's screen. This tool has been in my kit bag for years now, a must-have for me.

^ This. I haven't and won't use Twitter. Ditto Facebook. I looked into the years back and, as far as I can see, it is a profound waste of time.

Wow, breaking news at the market close. @dickc is stepping down as CEO. @CBNC is all over the story. Cramer is being his usual boorish self in comments ahead of his show. The stock price popped 8% on the news. Interesting.

Twitter has been consistently relevant over the years, while Facebook has been gradually dying out. If you have not noticed that, then you're somewhat blind. Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram are on the rise.
