It's not just the US, it's come out recently that the UK are also sending more troops to the middle east to help fight IS aswell. While I agree that something needs to be done, I'm not sure why it always seems to be us that does it.

    You are so right.
When I was much younger I witnessed the US convert Iran from a friend to a foe though its unwise meddling. They dreaded Ayatollah would never have taken power without US interference.
Then I saw the US turn against its ally in Iraq. But their modus operandi was so ignorant that Iraq became a breeding ground for radicals, including ISIS.

Kind Midas turned everything he touched into gold. Somehow, the US turns everything they touch into disaster, and then pretend this is Operation "Noble Cause" or some such Orwellian spin.

The long term logical outcome is that ISIS and other "radical" organisations will eventually become domestic terrorists in the US itself. This is not a wish. God forbid; but it seems inevitable.

The notion of inviting your enemy to immigrate in huge numbers into your homeland will create treason from within. Take note from which countries ISIS is recruiting volunteer fighters. When ISIS decides to hit back they will have plenty of volunteers to conduct treasonable activity within the US and allied countries. Even Cicero knew that treason from within is the worst possible option. There is little defense against this.

Way to go Obama. Please don't drag the whole world down with you.

We need to just destroy them quickly and be done with it.

We really need to worry about China and other emerging threats.

An additional 450 troops for training isn't going to turn the tide. For the matter, I doubt it will make the Iraqi's any more likely to fight for their country. This is Obama pretending to do something about the ISIS threat and little more.

I think that they still have some interest regarding petrol in my opinion and they go there under the flag of "peace makers" but of course they aren't.

I wish it was that easy, but the reality is how do we do it without killing innocent people. Maybe we should let them the middle eastern people take care of ISIS and the US focus our energy and time on China. China is a bigger threat now. They are right up there with the US in oil consumption.

I don't really care about ISIS or anything else in the middle east, unless I can be certain terrorists aren't plotting nuclear, biological, or infrastructure attacks against the US. We don't really need the middle east for oil as they're is plenty in the United States. In addition, scientists are learning to exploit solar energy and nuclear fusion. In fact, one story I read in a magazine said nuclear fusion could make a major breakthrough in the 2040s.

ISIS has used chlorine gas in attacks. I've read some reports that they are developing and/or attempting to obtain (from Assad's dying regime and also in Libya) more sophisticated chemical weapons. How long do you think they'll have them before they decide to us them on Europe or even US targets? If they can, they will.

What the Iraqi army lacks is experience. While I must admit that training will make them better but since they still lack real battlefield experience, they'll still be beaten. That probably is the reason why Peshmergas have fared better in their fight against ISIS. The U.S should try to get the Arab nations more involved in all this. Unless stability is restored in Syria, defeating ISIS is going to be impossible.
