Should free speech be suppressed to protect Obama from criticism? What makes him any different from any other leader? When someone screws up, you speak up and hope that others will notice what he's done and together you can force him to make amends. But how can that be done when each time someone criticizes Obama there's some backlash?

And we believe that freedom of speech still exists?

The constitutionally guaranteed right to free speech refers to the government not being allowed to stifle he speech of the citizens, which they clearly aren't.

Twitter is a free-for-all of free speech. Which is why they restrict it to 13-year-olds and older (but I guess the rules don't apply to this family?). You get to say what you like, other people get to respond.

For what it's worth the only response they quote is not actually a death threat. Anything threatening, well they should report it to Twitter and the police. Actual threats of harm are illegal and not protected speech.

Firstly, he's 12 and shouldn't have a Twitter account in the first place! Why hasn't he account been shut down? You can't have one rule for some people and another for the rest of us.

OK, it wasn't a death threat as such but at the same time, you can't go round wishing people's families dead. For all his arrogance, he's still just a kid and I can imagine that such comments would be very disturbing. Which brings us back to the point that there is an age restriction on Twitter and comments like this simply highlight why this exists.

Sad that this is even a topic. How sick do you have to be to threaten a 12 year old and his family because of his political leanings? Stuff like this just irritates the heck out of me.

The fact that a 12 year-old can actually articulate an opinion on Obama at all is impressive enough. He should be commended for paying attention and learning about our government. Him having a twitter account doesn't bother me though. Who doesn't lie on the internet?

Freedom of speech!? It's a thermin to cover all political games. It's not for the simple citizens.
All what is called free country means free politician system to rule by people.

Freedom of speech my foot!!..that term doesn't exist, maybe in saying and passing but to be used by people on a day to day basis...I think not, one has to learn how to sieve what words come out from their mouths these days lest they find themselves 6 feet under!...plus very few human beings can deal with the truth...hence the term Truth hurts!

It's silly to even think that someone would go to the trouble of harassing a 12 year old over a twitter statement. Some people just don't have lives and take things to seriously. He's just a kid, but I'm surprised that he has a strong grasp of politics. When I was 12 I was too busy riding my bike to care about the president.

Freedom of speech for whom? I assume you mean the 12 year old boy? At least, I hope you do!

It's funny how stories tagged like this never make national headlines or freedom of speech discussion from political pundits. But I guarantee you that if he was in favor of Obama and he got a death threat, it would be all over the news. I wish the media would at least attempt at being balanced.

Absolutely not. Anyone who would seriously entertain such an idea is a loon so far to the left and so lacking in common sense that they're beyond all hope.

So much of this has no doubt been born of the leftist notion that it's "racist" to criticize anything pertaining to the country's first black president - anything he says, any of his ideas or actions, etc.

I think it is equally loony to post a video of you child on Twitter and be surprised if you get trolled.

Freedom of speech goes both ways and you shouldn't throw your kid out on the open internet and assume everyone will treat them like precious snowflakes, and more then you should throw them out into the nearest public park and not expect that they might get offered candy by a guy who owns a van. This is the real world. Adults look after themselves and their kids rather than expecting the internet to do it for them = taking personal responsibility, people.
