How can anyone address this problem if they were the president? Should we just persecute all Muslims and throw them into internment camps like we did in the 1940's with Japanese Americans? That is unconstitutional. Should he just put a lid on the internet to stop recruitment? Sorry to say, there are misguided and lost individuals that can be seduced by idiotic ideology. Look at Scientology and how popular that has gotten. It shouldn't be a stretch for someone to think that killing others just get their hands on some virgins in heaven.

You are bending my mind. Who said anything about persecuting all Muslims? What does your riposte have to do with Obama and his czars labeling Islamic terrorism as workplace violence? Our military have their hands tied by feckless autocracy. Geez.

I think the President is correct, our enemy is violent people with guns. The majority of mass shooters within the US are not Muslim. They are home-grown Christian-slash-Agnostic white men with grudges. Case in point the most recent theater shooting where the only surprising thing is that his ex-wife was not the first victim. Because that is so common that spousal murders barely even make the news.

What does violent people with guns or an unfortunate theater shooting to do with recognizing Islamic terrorism for what it is when the protagonists muck around in the ISIS (ISIL as Obama and czars call it) confluence and shout "Allah Akbar" enroute to 72 houri?

Really? That's a pretty broad statement isn't it? Let's take a look at the actual stats from the last thirty years.

While reading the news on this shooting yesterday I wondered when it became a practice in the news media to start adding a color or a nationality of a shooter. It seems to me prior to 911 this never happened, you got a name and maybe an age. Then perhaps later there was in-depth mention on additional findings of the killer. I can't help but feel that this is a HUGE part of the problem. Seems to be a considerable amount of race baiting these days, that's a great way to foster tension.

Regardless though statistics seem to indicate that mental illness is a huge factor in multiple shootings. Definitely some resources should be used to look at the way that mental health issues are handled in this country. The long and the short of it is... you can never be certain when someone might just pop their cork and go postal. The more people there are the greater the risk, that just goes without saying. Can't help but feel that the increase in the use of psyche drugs comes to play big time in these shootings.

    Brilliant.
So many people like to spin these stories into a political fight. Also many American's always tell me "oh criminals ans terrorists get their guns illegally so we need MORE legal guns to fight them!"

These shootings almost always occur in "gun free zones" - you know, those places where law-abiding folks are going to be unarmed and will be sitting ducks. And even though the guy in the theater in Lafayette, LA inexplicably got his gun legally, most of these killings are committed with illegal guns.

You cannot eliminate gun violence by trying to take away firearms - bad guys won't turn their guns in, they will hide them, they will buy or steal them on the black market, etc. Or they will kill with bombs, poison, or other deadly weapons.

Things like radical islamic terrorism, illegal immigrant problems, a lack of a secure border, street gangs and other criminal behavior, mental illness, and cultural problems are the issues that need to be addressed. And yes, THESE people shouldn't be armed, and should often be rotting away in jails or mental institutions in most cases - not walking around freely in the streets of America looking for the first opportunity to harm someone.

We need to make more liberal use of the death penalty, lock more people up, deport more people, secure the border, and stop being so politically correct. Otherwise, these things will continue and only get worse.
