This news may also give pause to or slow the flight of potential $F F-150 buyers to Dodge RAM trucks. HTH. YMMV.
I've been short GM stock myself for a while now. I've been a buyer of Lexus, Toyota, and occasionally Honda and Nissan in the most recent past and never had any problems. In the more distant past, American, German, and even Italian cars have given me problems. I think I'll stick to buying Japanese autos.
Don't blame you on $GM. I thought Honda was whacked over the Takata airbag business. $FCAU price wiggled a bit this morning but at ~$14 there isn't much to play with. Some traders are recommending buying $F ahead of earnings. We shall see. Market has been tough this year, so for now I'll be happy to collect the >4% $F dividend.
Totally concur with your sentiment. Every time I meet them halfway thinking about buying an American car, some news report like this comes down the pike and pulled me right off the rails. I've been driving Hondas for the last 20 years, and they've been great to me. The only reason I've considered switching brands is because of price, then I remember that I literally drove my last car into the ground, over 260,000 miles, and still sold it for close to $2000, even after all that in 10 years of driving. Hondas rock.
Pays your money and takes your choice. The dealer, in my opinion, is more important than the vehicle brand. My wife and I bought our first new car in 1965. T'was a Mustang. Aside from a VW in the 1970s gas crisis, we've own Fords. We enjoy very good luck and service with our current Ford dealer that we've been with since 1979. Our 2007 Mustang convertible and 2015 Ford Edge Sport are great. Most importantly, I don't have to worry about unnecessary work and what is done is done correctly. Over my working years I've driven other brands and models. Some Chryslers, a few Chevrolets, meh. But like buying a house where location is important, it's the dealer, dealee, dealer...
