Obama's trip to Africa was, the Chinese media says, a bid to counter China's growing influence on the continent. Citing the drop in trade volume [between Africa and the U.S] as evidence that the U.S's relevance in Africa is fading, they [the Chinese] contend that to reverse things, the U.S had to make a bold move and this trip was meant to convince the African people that the U.S can be a better "friend" than China.

Any thoughts on Obama's Kenya/Africa trip?

As far as "growth potential" Africa has the most. The Chinese influence is HUGE, they are buying assets left and right. A few important and strategic resources exists in abundance there as well. But what comes with all that are untold problems and issues that need to be addressed.
The West would be wise to keep our interests there alive, but we also can't let it drain us.

I think that the US gets involved anywhere that there is a potential threat to our country. China is huge, but Africa is also important to us. This is my theory, so it may be wrong, many Africans suffer with not enough food or money to even get the most basic essentials, so they are vulnerable to terrorist organizations who will make big promises of money and supplies if they take a stand against the US. If we Americans are proactive and offer friendship and supplies to the Africans who need them, there is less of a chance that they will turn on us. I guess friendship is cheaper than war in the long run.

If you go into the street and ask Joe Public why @POTUS went to Africa, I would be willing to give you odds that most persons would not be able to tell you why. I like to think I'm reasonably aware of politics, probably watch too much news on the BBC, CNN and Fox News, and look at news sources on the net. I have no idea what the purpose of the trip is. He sees relatives, mumbles about human rights and perhaps gay marriage but as Patti Page warbled "is that all there is"? Oh yes, he commented on some Republican candidates' comments. Very significant when the Kenya and Ethiopia people probably have no idea of the USA election machinations.

I wonder if Obama is afraid of disappearing from the public spotlight in 18 months, and wants to be seen as a leader on the world stage. President of the UN?

I think China has a legitimate gripe about the situation. I think every move any country does is for self serving reasons. There usually a underlying reason for political or financial gains. Even though the president does have ancestral roots in the region, and did visit family members. Has any thought that maybe he knows he is on the way out of the oval office and is wanting to use tax payers money to make the trip on our dime?

I have read somewhere that China is dominating the trade in some African countries, just not sure if Kenya was part of China's trade territories. And if China thinks that US president Obama's trip to Kenya is to make their (US) presence felt to the Africans, China is partly right and partly wrong. The US is reminding Africa on their past relations but not forcing them to trade with the Americans. That's how I read it.

I was just seeing on the news that Obama was criticizing the African presidents that are too long in the chair of power. It makes me wonder, does he expect to have good relations with those countries speaking like that?

It's the truth he said. Because they make a lot of money whilst they are still leaders [through corruption and other shady activities] they never are ready to let go because they fear those who'll come after them may seize their assets or have them jailed. To avoid prosecution they have to cling to power.

He'd win a third term? I wonder though, what makes him think he's a good president?

He's been a "transformer" in his mind, and he's a narcissist with radical leftist ties and roots to the likes of George Soros, reverend Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers, and other loons.

He sees the ACA, Dodd Frank, the apology tour, cutting and running from Iraq, the Russian "reset" that hasn't gone so well, lifting the Cuban and Iranian sanctions and cutting deals with them, releasing 5 terrorist superstars in exchange for that Bergdahl piece of shit, and the eventual closing of GITMO as legacy items that are transformative in favorable ways to him.
