The U.S. government believes fugitive Mexican drug kingpin Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman is still in Mexico, and federal agents are working with Mexican authorities on his recapture, the acting head of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration said on Wednesday. WASHINGTON: The U.S. government believes fugitive Mexican drug kingpin Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman is still in Mexico, and federal agents are working with Mexican authorities on his recapture, the acting head of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration said on Wednesday. "Where is he probably the safest and best protected? Probably Sinaloa," Chuck Rosenberg said in a briefing with reporters, in reference to Guzman's home state where he built up his powerful drug cartel. Rosenberg said DEA agents are sharing intelligence with their Mexican counterparts but added that "institutional problems" in the country made such information gathering difficult. "We have sources in Mexico we can work closely with. It doesn't extend throughout the entire government," he said at a briefing with reporters. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Marshals Service and the U.S. State Department are also involved, Rosenberg said. It would appear that he practically rules Mexico, so I wouldn't be shocked to hear that he's safely hidden away somewhere down there living like a king.
He's obviously still in Mexico, he has a lot of power over here, that's the power that he used to come out of prison... and as another user just mentioned I won't be surprised if he would be in his mansion on Sinaloa living like a king.
Hmmm, I am sure it is hard to find police in Mexico that are not corrupt. I mean most of those people are quite poor by U.S. standards and the type of money they are no doubt being offered to keep their mouth shut or to turn investigators in another direction would turn the head of anyone. I wish they luck, but allowing him to stay in Mexico was a bad idea. He should have been extradited to the U.S. to stand trial.
I don't think they will find him anytime soon since there are lot of police and politicians in his pocket.
Basically all of Mexico is working for him due to the fact that he could have anyone killed if he wanted to.
His cell should've been checked daily he's a drug king pin after all he could've smuggled a lot of drugs inside the prison too. Security was really blindsided this time-- this looks pretty bad for the prison right now.
