I was doing some reading on other forums today and the prediction is that the Facebook era is going to start coming to an end. People are getting sick of the site and closing their pages down. What do you think of the future for this site?

Unlikely. Facebook has gained critical mass and is a critical social medium. Teenagers who are often being quoted as getting off FB are also switching to a new social network every other week, whichever the fad of the week is. So unlike FB most alternative social venues have a very fickle member base. Facebook will not be displaced easily and it is here to stay.

Of course it is a different story whether they can fully monetize their mobile platform and come up with new revenue sources. In my opinion FB's stock is likely fully valued at this stage...

I don't agree with that at all Rosyrain, Facebook it's permanently reinventing itself and while maintaining it's core, so I don't think it's coming down anytime soon.

I don't think Facebook can grow much more as a brand, I think all that's left is for them to start getting into other areas, similarly to what Google did.
The purchase of Occulus Rift was a first step in this direction I think.

I don't think I'd want to own stock (at this point, maybe later), but I think Facebook will probably be around for a long time. I agree with @Strykstar that they'll need to expand in order to stay on the top (or near the top.)

I think I may have said the same about MySpace a few years ago, though, so who knows.

Facebook is too large to just die now. While they may be loosing some younger members, their are a lot more older members taking their place. Even the people that have deleted their accounts are reopening them since so many things need to be completed via Facebook.

As for the stock, I don't see it having large room for growth since the market is already saturated and there is only so much more money they can make from ads. Trying to pick up separate markets will need a huge investment and will likely take a while to turn a profit.

I am sure there will soon be something taking over Facebook. Just as Facebook took over Myspace years ago. People are always looking for something new. Personally I have heard Facebook is for the older generation now and teenagers think it's uncool because their parents are on it.

Yes facebook is losing thousands of daily users every single day. More and more people are moving to Twitter. One day Facebook will just fail and disappear

I really think that Facebook is going downhill. I have not touched my FB account since New Year's Eve. I would delete my account but only keep it to keep in touch with some friends who I no longer see anymore, but even then I still have their phone numbers so there's really no use of FB for me. Looks like FB will be another laughing stock in the future just like MySpace is now. Karma is a B.
