There have been some very news worthy murders over the years and some of them are televised and books written about them even several years later. I bring this up because I read an article the other day stating that Casey Anthony is going to start profiting from her trial with book deals and such. Are there any crimes that you followed closely?

Not really. The media tends to write about these things a lot since apparently people love reading about them but personally.. unless it's something very close to where I live or something absolutely HUGE then I don't really pay attention.

I followed the Oscar Pistorius trial very closely (the paralympian shot and killed his girlfriend on Valentines Day in 2014). From the time it became a headline, I was on top of everything. I remember following the trial very closely on social media and having to sift amongst the rumours for facts. I think everyone believed themselves to be legal experts on Twitter. Since South African does not use the jury system, it was permitted for the entire case to be televised. There was a dedicated channel on TV, with insights from legal personnel and various studio guests in the evenings and live broadcasts of the trial during the day. It was quite interesting to see the legal system in action but the whole trial was very sad at the same time. I'm quite certain that that was a very unproductive period in the country, people were watching and listening to the trial pretty much everywhere and anywhere that they could.

I followed the Casey Anthony trial. Personally, I feel she was as guilty as sin. Her acquittal was like the OJ acquittal in the first trial. Since, I don't know that the father was conclusively proven, I don't think she can be sued for civil damages. Although, I have heard that the most likely candidate for the father was killed in an accident. If I was the family of that individual I would take Anthony to civil court though..

You have to wonder if the media has time for another big crime (At least public sector wise) with all the politicking going on.

Any police shootings will likely make headlines. White on black, black on white, purple on lavender crimes will get some limited sensation.

Anything that gives Nancy Grace less airtime is ok in my book.

I can't say I do follow crimes happening but if I happen to get wind of it then I'd be quite interested to know what really transpired but as soon as I get the information, I don't like dwelling there quite much, I find that to be negative energy, while am aiming at positive energy.

The latest thing that I followed was that prison breach that happened in New York. That whole situation was just a crazy thing and I still can't believe that happened.

There's nothing overly news worthy in my area, however, if something does happen, I like to keep updated with the facts and try to avoid the speculation. I don't feel like crimes should be discussed to great lengths on the news, and should certainly not be made into anything that sensationalises it, making the perpetrator famous (thus possibly encouraging others). Having said that, it is important to cover these stories to an extent.
