Angelo Badalamenti's music for David Lynch's Twin Peaks (debut 1990), c.f. http://www.rollingstone.com/tv/news/dream-team-the-semi-mysterious-story-behind-the-music-of-twin-peaks-20140725 for the rest of the story.

Second, Jan Hammer's music for Michael Mann's Miami Vice (debut 1984), which at the time broke the mold of TV cop shows in so many ways.

Miami Vice was a great show for sure!

You know you've got a great show when all of the sudden the other networks start copying it.

Any kid of the 80s that doesn't vote for Magnum PI or the A-Team theme grew up in a bubble.

I would have to say my top favourite theme songs will be the ones listed below. Just for the record these shows aren't necessarily my most favourite shows of all time

    1. "Save Me" by Remy Zero (awesome band by the way, really underrated). The theme Song for Smallville

    2. "California" by Phantom Planet. Theme song for The O.C.

    3. "Boss of Me" by They Might be Giants. Theme song for Malcolm in the Middle

Since I'm practically revealing my age, it's needless to say that I also loved every single Disney and Cartoon Network theme song of the 90s;)

Forget to include Maurice Jarre's majestic score for Lawrence of Arabia (1962). The Ovature opening the film and later the First Entrance To The Desert -- about 23 minutes into the film, starting with the rising sun and a wide shot of the pristine dunes, with Lawrence and his Bedu guide on camels first appearing as a tiny dot in the distance -- are magnificent. If you weren't lucky enough to see the movie in the theater with a good audio system, the restored version (1988) is on Netflix this month. Use a good TV sound bar or high end headphones, e.g. Bose QC-15 or QC-25, and crank it up. Enjoy.

I love the Twin Peaks theme song. It's one of those cult classic shows that actually have a decent theme song lol.
