http://www.marketwatch.com/investing/stock/wtw Weightwatchers up triple digits on news of Oprah taking a 10% stake in the company. I'm gonna keep my eye on this one in the coming days and weeks. It was cheap Friday - if/when it sells off somewhat from this newly inflated price, I'm probably going to start buying in a little here and there.
I think it was Bloomberg that reported in today's closing market show that $WTW short interest was very high. It looks it is ~26% (http://www.nasdaq.com/symbol/wtw/short-interest and https://ycharts.com/companies/WTW/shares_outstanding). Some persons undoubtedly will be hurting.
There is this interesting article I found: http://www.thefiscaltimes.com/2015/10/19/Can-Oprah-Save-Weight-Watchers I suppose though that for a while, Weight Loss stock prices will keep creeping up.
I grabbed a little nibble just before the close today. Will buy more when it's likely quite a bit cheaper.
Hmm... this was certainly big news. But does Oprah coming in actually change much for the company, other than having a new public figure as their "sales person" ?
I felt like it was a publicity stunt, I am sure we will hear in the near future some sort of news that Oprah is going to return to television or start some other sort of venture. I recently saw Oprah news in one of the gossip papers and heard her mentioned on talk radio. In hind sight since that was a radio show on the election I wonder if perhaps she is going to throw her hat in for one of the candidates. I know Trump always had issues with Rosie O'Donnell who coincidentally was also in the news quite a bit recently on of all things weight loss! Oh and who did she discuss this with then? None other then Dr.Oz small surprise. Well...lets see how this plays out shall we
Tell me, if you are a short investor, how would you like to wake up to news that Oprah just bought into and announced that she was investing in the company you were shorting.... that is a window ledge, or at least a anti-acid moment for sure.
