The polls are about to close and the tallying is about to begin. There were larger voter turn outs then in previous elections. It should be interesting to see what the results will be. Hoping to have a change of government but time will tell.

    Libs take a majority government.
VERY interested to see how my Canadian holdings do tomorrow... Prob going to take a hit.
That being said, I am glad to see Harper go. He did well for his two terms, but it's clear he only wanted power for powers sake now.

I was really surprised about how well the Liberals did! I, too, am glad to see Harper go!
It was time for a change. Now to wait and see how Trudeau handles thing!

From what little I've read, the new PM is a pretty hard left individual. To our Canadian friends: what policy shifts do you see coming in the short term?

    Thanks for sharing.

He is more centre-left then hard left. But to an American even Harper would probably be considered to be leftist.

I think in his first year you will see Justin bring the government back to a more centrists point of view, and to be frank a more Canadian point of view.
He has promised to put together a plan to address climate change.
He will re-look at (and hopefully scrap) our plans to buy those stupid, useless, overpriced, over-engineered F-35 jets (I have a much stronger opinion on those, but let's leave that for another post/forum.)
He has made promises to legalized or at least decriminalize marijuana.
Remove the unlimited spending loophole in political funding.
He plans to support both the TPP and the Keystone XL.
He will support but with some changes the controversial "anti-terror" (whatever that's supposed to actually mean) C-51 bill.
He will be spending a lot of money. Hopefully not too much.

The election is over. It was a long election campaign for Canadians, much longer then we are use to. A lot went one, a lot of promises were made but now a winner has finally been declared. More than 68% of eligible voters cast a ballot that was a big jump from the last federal election. As Canadians we may not all agree on the outcome but a new government has been elected. We have 4 years to decide if we made the right decision. Trudeau has proven that he is a hard worker and he is dedicated to our country. He remained strong throughout the entire campaign. We will just have to wait and see what happens and what he does for our country. Time will tell!

I'm far from having enough knowledge to throw out an educated opinion on the results but let's just say that often "leftist" to me sounds like a bad start. Ohh well, we will see how it goes. Too bad the indexes didn't crash, I still have some goodies over in TSE that I want to buy more of! :p

Well, all I know is that Justin Trudeau is the new PM. I guess some in Canada, must like him, or maybe they just remember the name. Well, whatever, I hope you have a great next few years our neighbors to the North.
