Recently the Tunisia attack affected the local tourism as well as the travel industry that provided the holidays, now it seems to be happening in Egypt in Sharm el-Shiekh. While it maybe deliberate to cause mayhem to the masses, will these places ever recover, and will tourists have faith in returning?

Right now all the resorts will suffer, as who will book a holiday with so much instability, especially when flights appear to be at risk. Is it wise to take that risk, and how real is the risk?

I think people who travel to places like Egypt considering the fact that not too long ago there was some mild instability in the country take unnecessary risks. And following the recent terrorist attacks I think that fewer people will be willing to travel to Egypt [even though the risk of other planes being brought down is very low. It might take a really long time for Egypt's tourism industry to recover from this blow.

I don't think it's wise to take the risk to be honest, and you only have to watch the news on a daily basis to see that these attacks are getting to become almost a weekly occurrence.

Just a quick look on your own countries tourism guide will tell you where is safe and where isn't so my advice would be to pay attention to it.

While it is still not being confirmed, I think this is because they may have some other threats at large and don't wish to give away too much information. I do think the safety of citizens must be at the forefront of any governments responsibility, yet we know scaremongering can also create back lashes.

Airport security has always been an issue, and recently has relaxed, but maybe they will get stricter again? I used to work in the airport when there was a major crisis and I could see areas where safety could be breached then. I was around when they stopped liquids in hand luggage, and there were still security issues then that were missed.

There are a lot of things to be seen on this Earth. If I save for a couple of months for a nice vacation, I'd rather go to a place where I know that I am relatively safe. I wouldn't risk my life or my freedom just to see something that can also be seen in a couple of years.

I am the same way I would much rather travel to a place where I know my family and I can be safe. To a place where we can have fun and relax and not have to worry about our safety. Vacations are expensive why take the chance?

The risks are very minor. But it's obvious that the security situation in some of these countries is not as good as in, well Europe for example. That is not to say that there won't be a terrorist attack on a European tourist resort. So I wouldn't worry about these risks THAT much, just use common sense and don't go to Yemen for a beach vacation etc.

But yeah it does have a big effect in the local economy and often that is the main point of the attack. Scare away the tourists and you cause much more havoc to the economy than by destroying infrastructure.

That's probably why the terrorists attack the resort's in the first place. Not only does it cause the maximum amount of damage, it also creates the most amount of publicity as well as damaging the tourism industry of that particular country.

It's a psychological blow more than anything. I mean you're somewhere where you think it's safe and then an attack happens. It certainly makes you reconsider your vacation destination.

Egypt I cannot see recovering in ways of getting tourism back in big numbers any time soon. There still will be people who will be defiant and go there, but overall I think the damage has been done unfortunately. That whole region will need a lot of stability before it sees tourism return in a big way.

Tourists will return quickly. Egypt has had their fair share of security issues during the past decades... much more than most other countries. Yet as soon as the situation calms down tourists have returned, I doubt this time will be any different.
