People always say one must have 'faith', but sometimes I ask in what or whom? Yourself or the higher powers that we cannot see, or maybe others as in humanity?

I find faith fluctuates, some days I have faith and other days there isn't much. As for a blind leap of faith, sometimes we have no choice but to take it, but what happens to our faith when it doesn't work out, or work out how we would like? Is faith something we can learn to gain, or is it blind trust?

For me faith means to trust that everything will work out no matter how bad they seem at the time. Whether it be in myself or a higher power.

I take faith outside of the realm of religion. I must have faith that things will be, or get, better. I must have faith that everything will work out in the end. I have to have faith in my interpersonal relations that I won't get screwed over or hurt somehow. I think faith is more prevalent in all our lives than we care to admit; a distortion of faith, however, is when people decide to believe in mythology in the absence of evidence to support it.

Having faith in anything - not just in terms of religion - is something that I struggle with, but at the same time, I don't think I'll be able to get up everyday if didn't have even a sliver of it. Faith for me is believing in something even if you're not certain about it. It may sound ridiculous to some but that's my concept of it. I accept that I don't know everything, but still I choose to believe because living while riddled with doubts and fear is not acceptable to me.

I think it means believing in something without having to see it. It's counter intuitive to say something like that, but it's more of a "feel" type thing.

For me faith is not about religion but about the world around me and the people in it, including myself. I try to have some faith in myself and I try to hold faith in the people around me, and that things will be good and resolve it's self soon, although I have to say having faith is pretty hard sometimes.

I think faith can just be what you said:

Faith in yourself. We always have to believe believe in our capabilities and what we can do. We have to have dreams and work to achieve those dreams. Because if we don't believe in ourselves, other people would have a hard time believing in us as well. And in the end, when nothing is left of us, we still have ourselves.

Faith in a Supreme Being. I think as long as we believe that there's a higher Being out there. Someone that made all of this possible and made us possible, we are able to stay humble and righteous.

Faith in others. This last one is hard to do, because the truth is, humanity has been confusing nowadays. When you do a good deed, they will find fault in you. When others do a good deed for us, we find for a hidden agenda. But I think there are still people out there worth trusting and having faith in.

And for me, faith is something that we work for. We are naturally doubtful beings and we question everything, that's innate to us. So to have that faith, is like being able to let go of your doubts and believing that everyone of us is capable of things that we sometimes think we aren't.

Faith is believing without seeing. It's like when you promise a kid you'll buy them a toy. They have no doubt that you'll buy them the toy. They'll tell the friends about that new toy they are going to get. That's faith. They have no doubt even though they haven't yet seen that toy. When you come home in the evening they'll be eagerly waiting for you because they are sure you'll have the toy you promised them.

Our ability to believe gets eroded when people break the promises they make to us but we can learn to have faith.

Are we as a society losing faith in humanity? Do we have faith in the governments in terms of wars and the security of the nation?

Faith I find is something that can waver when you feel you have been let down. Sometimes you can let yourself down too, but it's worse from others, that's why faith and trust are intertwined, and qualities money cannot buy, but can be lost in seconds.
