I will never hand mine in and be a sitting duck for the bad guys who don't ever hand theirs in, and usually don't even buy them legally in the first place. Just look at what happened in Chicago, and how their very liberal mayor is now caving in on the gun ban.

We have a different culture than Europe. You cannot take what is done there with those largely docile, passive, socialist people and assume it will work here. In fact they are more and more being largely overrun by radical muslims committing scores of violent crimes as of late.

...or get killed in the process, a friend of mine tells me of a story where a boy of 5yrs killed his father using his father's own weapon, his father was taking a nap in the den and had just placed his gun on the table,{careless on his part}, son comes in, picks up the gun, curiosity gets the best of him, how it went from trigger to bam! on the father's chest in an instance is something altogether...the weapon he thought would protect his family and himself sent him hurtling into the afterlife faster than a cannon ball can move :(

Wow that's horrible :( That is why it is such a big deal to know about gun safety to me. So many lives could be saved and tragedies prevented if people simply educated themselves on how to properly handle a gun. It is a weapon people! You can't just leave it around carelessly, especially around young ones who don't really understand the true dangers of guns. This poor kid has to live the rest of his life knowing that he killed his father, even though it was not intentional. I'm really glad that my dad and uncle's taught me proper gun safety as soon as I was old enough to understand.

Gun violence is getting out of hand, and the United States has more gun violence than any other developed country on Earth. It's getting to the point where there's a school shooting once a week. We need to do something to protect people in this country who'd rather not have a gun on themselves 24/7. I think that gun control should be strict, but also fair. The laws should make sure that the only people who buy guns are responsible and safe with them.

Schools are gun-free zones. Other targets for mass shooters also tend to be gun-free zones as well. That's why they're chosen.

I don't trust this govt any further than I can throw them, and I certainly don't trust them to make the right decisions for my rights, health care, etc.

Is it really about gun control at the end of the day? the online games young ones play are violence-ridden, the movies, the society itself is violence-motivated, we read, see how other countries fight with each other using missiles, hand grenades, guns and the like, the young ones sitting with you there are exposed to these images 24/7/365...you want to tell me a stray gun lying on the table with no one to its name, won't get the better part of their curious minds?

I think people should be allowed to own guns. At the same time I do not think it should be easy or that any and everybody can just walk up and buy a gun.

This is true... although I'm guessing that people who are using them to shoot up schools and military bases in the mass casualty cases aren't buying their guns in a legal way. I could be wrong there... never really looked into it. But I'm thinking they're usually obtained illegally which "gun control" laws wouldn't touch anyhow.

In any case, I agree with you, @cmiller ... if there could be a way to uphold constitutional rights and at the same time keep them out of the wrong hands, it would be ideal. Anyone have an idea on how that could be accomplished?

I've always had to wait around a few minutes while the gun dealer got on the phone with the FBI to check my background before he'd take my money and give me my gun.
