I am looking to find some investment books to read. Any goods one you would recommend and ones to avoid?
The Bogleheads' Guide to Investing by Larimore et al. You can find it here: http://www.amazon.com/Bogleheads-Guide-Investing-Taylor-Larimore/dp/0470067365 . Really helped me out when I started, which was a month ago.
Graham's "Security Analysis" and "The Intelligent Investor" are among my favorites. "More Money Than God" is excellent, as are the "Market Wizards" series by Jack Schwager. Peter Lynch has also written several excellent books on investing.
The Intelligent Investor seems to be a very dry read. I listen to part of the audiobook and never completed. I would personally recommend "The Big Short", "Currency Wars" and "A Random Walk on Wall Street". Those are probably my personal favorites out of the ones I've read so far.
I will be getting a few of these books this week. I am really trying to get a lot more knowledgeable on this topic. This is definitely a good list to begin with. Once again thank you guys so much for this list of books.
One book I would stay away from is "The Coming Bond Market Collapse", it's one of my latest reads; while I don't necessary disagree with his outlook and there's some value to derive from the read. The author has so little respect for the other view and people like Ben Bernanke. I almost feel as if the book was written for the popular masses, especially those that are considered gold bugs.
I'm really don't know how valuable my advice is, but I've read "One up on Wall Street" by Peter Lynch and I loved it. It was written in 1989 though... I think for the most part it's still relevant in today's world. It's very much focused on long term investing though. I really like how he explains his method for picking winner stocks. Hope this helps you in any way...
I actually avoid investment books because you can get the same knowledge online for free. Then again, if you're an avid reader, then all the more power to you. Maybe I just don't have enough time to read with how hectic some of my days are. I should probably pick up a book or two soon. -_-
Look to your local library and see if their collections are available on line through the Overdrive phone/tablet app. I find quite a number of decent reads to pick from. Fundamental and technical analysis principles don't change. My property taxes support the library. I can read or skim or listen on the go. And no running to book stores or figuring out where to shelve the books in my already cluttered space.
