Why are politicians eager to go to war instead of negotiating? It seems like politicians don’t work for the people and they are self-interested. Politics is centered on greed for power. Wars result in two things, which are superiority and inferiority. Politicians are willing to risk every life for more power. Supposedly, war yields better results than any other alternative solution. It’s all or nothing! What is your opinion?

Impossible to negotiate with terrorists, liars, thugs, and dictators. They only respect what they fear. The US always ruled through quiet strength, but it looks like those days are behind us.

Because either it's not their skin in the game or they have a vested interest in going to war through lobbyists or holdings in companies. You'd see a lot more anti-war people in congress if they were required to send their children or relatives into war zones.

I have zero respect for chickenhawks either way. McCain may be a boor of a man and a cutthroat but at least he has the scars of war on him. I'll respect him for that. Other politicians though...

Yes, I agree. If any U.S. president was required to send his own child into war, there'd never be one. However, sending someone else's child is much easier. Also, I read somewhere that when American's are at war, voters are less likely to usher in a new president. So, one political ploy is to start one in order to keep the reigning president in office.

You surprise me JR, I thought it common knowledge the U.S had a long history of installing and coddling tyrants and dictators like Pahlavi, Pinochet, Batista, Mubarak, Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali, King Fahd bin 'Abdul -'Aziz etc to mention but a few.

    .

And none of the above (and the very many others), had anything to fear from the U.S whilst they did their bidding did they?

Ah, those were the days.... when was that by the way? :)

It's one thing to keep someone under your thumb and watch them like a hawk if you allow them to do your bidding while it's in your best interest.

I believe in the US doing what's in its best interests. I'm not somebody who thinks we've been a bad country for hundreds of years and that we should weaken and humble ourselves and let others start getting the upper hand. Do you think that the world would be better with the likes of Iran, North Korea, Russia, etc taking over and filling the vacuum we're creating?

To use an analogy: a rattlesnake can and usually will bite you if you don't kill it or at least de-fang it after you've gotten the venom from it to produce anti-venom.

What country are you from? How old are you? Still in college, perhaps?

Politicians are quick to want to go to war, because at the end of the day, they are not the ones going to war, it is the armed forces going to war as they sit peacefully in the comfort of their homes.
