The spectre of the outbreak of the dreaded Ebola disease looms overs us. Giving our porous borders, an infected foreigner can find his ways into out country, and inadvertently infect our people with the Ebola virus. So what our country's level of preparedness regarding how to tackle and contain the Ebola disease if the situation goes beyond what it is now.
This epidemic has everyone's hands tied despite trying to put up whatever kind of preventive measures in place...this is the part where we have no choice but to wait it out and see and hope for the best plus continue being cautious and listen to our bodies...any feeling of a fever or Ebola like symptom instead of hiding...seeking medical help will help out a great deal
Lots of potential catastrophes are happening right now. I think the fact that ebola is not easily contagious makes it much less an issue. And its symptoms are quite visible. Definitely important but I believe some sort of vaccine will be developed in the near future.
More concerning is the ISIS right now and more and more supporters running to their cause. Their threats to America and the west and the fact that there are ISIS sympathizers holding a US passport within our borders. This is very scary. The UK and even a country like Australia has already raised its terror alerts to a high level. I imagine the same will be happening for the US. And then you have the aggressive Russians causing trouble in Europe. Lots to be concerned about right now.
This is a deadly disease that requires all our attention to ensure that it is eradicated. We all have to do our part to ensure that we assist to get rid of it. Most people are afraid to report if they experience symptoms and therefore spread the disease to the next person.
I've said this a million times before and I'll say it again. Ebola poses next to no threat in western countries, mainly because of it's very long incubation period and how hard it is to contract from others. The reason it spreads so fast is because, for example, some like to touch the bodies of their dead loved ones which in turn gets them infected. They also don't have the correct facilities to take care of the dying. All in all, Ebola isn't getting far at all here.
Yep this. People were freaking out about us bringing back the 3.. doctors? volunteers? I forget their classification, but people were upset about bringing them back into the country for fear of the virus getting out. And my response was always.. why? You know the procedural to keep them quarantined must have been crazy intensive and I trust our CDC people to keep them properly contained. Those people also had the right to return to their own country to receive medical attention
There was talk that the Ebola virus could mutate and become airborne. If that were to happen then everyone is at risk. But that's nothing more than speculation. There is the possibility of Ebola spreading more in W. Africa. By January, unless something is done to stop the spread of the disease, the number of those infected could rise to 1 million. You can't quarantine such a large number of people. From there it would be easy for the disease to spread elsewhere because you wouldn't know who is infected.
ormaybeso is right. Ebola isn't really a threat if you're from a western country. We have the facilities to treat the contaminated appropriately if needed and that has happened a handful of times so far.
Its almost like the perfect distraction that is causing us to think more of a terrorist organization like ISIS more than the Ebola virus which can be in anyone. I mean there are supporters who would continue to support the cause of ISIS. There is no sympathy from ISIS since they would not mind beheading you for speaking out against them. CDC already takes precautions to ensure that people are aware of the Ebola virus and how should you approach your surroundings.
