I'm from Australia and recently started to invest and trade on the Australian Stock Exchange. The ASX online courses were hands down the best thing I have done in recent years to improve not just my knowledge of trading stocks, but just improve my worldliness altogether. All that stock market talk on the news just went straight over my head, but now it is interesting and informative. When I read a news article about world events, I now see it with my stock market eyes and watch for signs of what might happen next.

So I have a pretty good handle on things here in Australia, so where can I find a similar e-learning experience in the US?

    Hmmmm

Depends on a lot of things concerning you. What specific segment are you trying to invest in? What kind of stocks? My two cents would be to follow the American government and look for policies that affect that specific segment directly. There are many online places to learn for free, but it can get overwhelming. Also, it depends on where you get your information. I say that because many organizations have a motive. Like some people might say tune in to Kramer. I wouldn't, not because of him, but the company he works for. You can try Ihub, I think it still has a good community of investors that give great general advice. Take your time and be careful. The American stock market, like many, is being heavily manipulated on many levels. I'm not a conspiracy theorist by far. However, I've learned through experience that it pays to study carefully and learn the major players in a segment. Also, just a word of advice, learn from the shorts, they're usually right!

I posted a link in another thread to a youtube video presentation where Bill Ackman explains the basics of investing and how to find good investments. Youtube has lots of footage of Dalio, Buffett, Icahn, and others that you can learn something from listening to them. You might check out some of the books we've recommended here from your library - Benjamin Graham is my favorite investment author, although there are others that are very knowledgable as well.

I'd take notes, and you can also watch the investment tv channels to get a feel for things. Websites such as morningstar, marketwatch, WSJ, Yahoo finance, and others offer lots of free content. You'll probably eventually find a good stock screener to be an invaluable tool.

Yes, as I have previously said, there are many websites like investopedia and wikipedia which certainly help you to understand everything about the market. You can also follow the top investors and make observations, that helps a lot. The web is a big place, there is a lot of information everywhere, you just need to type in the right keywords :)

I was looking for some good resources as well and I think that the best that I was able to find was some videos that I had been learning from on youtube. I will tell you that I think that I have learned a lot but I think that the information is a bit scattered for me and I like to learn in a step by step format.

All kinds of free information online.
Recommend looking at Technical Analysis and chart reading - you can find a lot of free information. Add this perspective (charts) to your Fundamental and Global Macro analysis.

You only need to check Wikipedia. Even though it's very, very unfiltered... it's still free information, the "freest" that you'll ever get. :)
