The seasonally-adjusted SGS Alternate Unemployment Rate reflects current unemployment reporting methodology adjusted for SGS-estimated long-term discouraged workers, who were defined out of official existence in 1994. That estimate is added to the BLS estimate of U-6 unemployment, which includes short-term discouraged workers.

Its a more accurate reflection of unemployment, once you put back in what the gov removes because it makes the numbers look bad.
Gov #'s are all about SPIN and PR. Best light only.
Another example of gov spin and p/r is refusing to print the M3.
How are you gonna figure out what anything is really worth if you don;t have an accurate account of how much $ is floating around?
    Its not about information....

So that is the real unemployment rate? Nearly 25%? That is a scary number Phi, I feel sorry for all those people without a job.

It's interesting how the grey and red bars are going down recently, but the blue one keeps going up and up, even if at a slower pace than before...

I find hard to believe that governments are able to manipulate the statistics this much, 25% unemployment, really??

It is great to notice that people are getting employed so the economy would rise again. However, the shadowstats' line seems kind of weird and it is hard to know the real unemployment rate since there are many kinds of statistics.

The unemployment rate always lowers before Christmas because of seasonal hirings. Every year people behave as if they are shocked. lol Every year... I love it that people are always surprised. lol

Unemployment is just one of those things that is hanging in the air. I just do not see the rate staying at the same level. Usually with holidays its a huge toss up with the rate going down since stores would look for seasonal help which I have applied to a few of those places.

Is this actual jobs created or people no longer claiming welfare? To me, a lot of jobs these days are variable/part-time hours and not likely to last beyond a year or two. There are still too many financial time bombs around for this to be anything more than a headline for team Obama.

Ah, if only these numbers were true. It's only at an "all-time low" because the government stops counting people who have given up looking for work after not having a job for 18 months (or something close to that length of time), but still want to find work and aren't retired.

My dad actually was under this bracket a few years back when he first closed his business. He received unemployment for awhile, his used up his benefits, never ended up finding another job and all of a sudden found out he wasn't counted under the government definition of who they include in the unemployed statistic.

Exactly jamal, those numbers seem to be artificial, I don't know how they can get away with them.
