Not really, Google Express has been moving steadily along for a while now. The problem that they may have in the long run is penetration as I don't think they do enough to advertise this service. I know of them because I've seen them, not because of the many stories in various media outlets discussing their service.
This might be a dumb question but does Google sell a lot of merchandise? What is the shipping service for? Since I already pay for prime I don't know if I'd switch over to Google unless it was cheaper.
Good try Google and continue to do a wonderful job Amazon! Google is a winner, so I don't expect nothing but the best in this venture. It's good too because jobs will be created that's an important thing, Google should also ensure that their staff is as well trained and mannerly as the ones at Amazon because Amazon stressed good customer care, that's why they do so well, and I know everybody can attest to that.
I think google is doing this just because Amazon is their biggest competitor in the search space. Many people would think yahoo or bing, but no, actually amazon is google biggest competition. Could be a smart move my google down the road.
How exactly is Amazon a player in the search engine competition? I've never heard of Amazon being able to search anything but the products that they sell. Not to mention, Google Express isn't a service in response to Amazon, but one that has been going for a bit. It's expanding, but it's been tested for a good bit of time.
Amazon is an ecommerce giant and has nothing to do with search aside from its own website's search engine, which doesn't compete with Google in the slightest bit. What makes you think that Amazon is Google's biggest competition in SEARCH? That's the craziest thing I've ever heard.
It is amazing to have more competition in this field since shipping is a crucial part when ordering products aboard. However, I hope this would reduce the shipping prices since in my opinion they are way too high at the moment.
Maybe I am being naive and idealistic, but the major move would be to takeover UPS or DHL and either half it for a designated Amazon/Google delivery service or rename the whole thing. You'd already have the drivers, fleet and infrastructure to get started quickly, in addition to the business that they already have.
Google has the capacity to lead, but competition with a specialized company like Amazon it will be hard for them to take top spot.
After the recent sell-off, Amazon has made a nice come back (along with the rest of the market). Somewhat surprising how quickly investor came back to the stock after all the downgrades. Up over 5% in only 4 days!
