I have been scammed a few times by third party sites that had promised to deliver referrals when they did not. That was when I did not know too much about those sites so I would open the Paypal dispute and would be successful.
I've thankfully never been deceived online, but I attribute that to me making online purchases almost exclusively from well known stores like Amazon.
I've been deceived many times online unfortunately. When I first started shopping online, I didn't know about sites like Amazon, so most of everything I bought came from Ebay. I also didn't know how to recognize a legitimate seller on Ebay, so I always bought from the wrong type of people and they deceived me many times. Now I only purchase from sites like Amazon, and if I do use Ebay I always make sure the seller is well trusted and has good ratings.
I have also had issues with getting knock off products from ebay. Both times I was able to get my money back, thankfully. It was still a hassle to deal with. I have never been scammed otherwise...I try to be cautious when dealing with others online. You never know who you're talking to.

Oh man that sucks that to get knock off products from Ebay. I have never got a dud from Ebay the products for me come the way they do. Were you able to get your money back by any chance?
Fortunately that never happened to me, but it's fairly easy, especially when buying at e-bay and such, how many times to we receive payment and we can choose to ship the items or not?
I have had some problems with the eBay orders but luckily I have paid with Paypal since it is extremely easy to file a dispute and get the money back if you have been deceived.

I do a lot of online shopping hence people like me are easy target for online scams. Online scams are quite popular, only because the services provided online cannot be directly seen by the people. There was this time when I had purchased a bag online and I received the wrong colour and size. I felt really bad when they refused to replace it.
