For a young person I think a corporate job is a much better option. Simply because you don't really have the financial stability that makes freelancing worth it. If you are constantly worried about your next paycheck it's not going to be a happy life you are living. If you can build a bit of a nest egg from your corporate job, some backup funds and maybe a few investments that bring in regular dividends / other distributions then it will be a lot easier to start a freelance career.

I'd probably go for the freelance option, though my target is to combine the two. It's all about the freedom of freelance and the guaranteed cash flow from a corporate job. At the end of the day, we can't rely on the corporate world any more for everything so we've got to build up freelance opportunities.

Thanks for the advice, Crimson. I should put some funds aside but I don't understand how dividents work and how can I invest in such things?

I do not think it is quite easy to meet the requirements of settings up a freelancer job. I believe one should be hardworking and intelligent to get the required profit from freelancer job.

I have done both. I have worked for large corporations and have done freelance work. I have also owned a small business. I take being self employed over working for someone else. Working for a corporation does provide stability and great benefits, but the freedom and flexibility that you have when you work for yourself in priceless. Working for yourself doesn't mean that you don't have a boss. Your clients are your bosses.

I believe it is best to have a freelancer job once in a while but the corporate job is the one that is actually worth talking about. I believe it is best to try out on both and then think which job actually is totally worth it. Each person have their own choices

I'd choose freelancing, i have worked under two people, worked my brow off and i get no thanks in return..just false accusations and a ruined reputation all for nothing...i have had it with working for someone, let me be my own boss and set my own hours and eat the fruit of my labor :)

I would definitely choose the freelance job. I like being my own boss and being responsible for my own success and failure. Im not a can of being micromanaged or being talked down to. Love setting my own hours as well.

Working for a corporation will most likely make you a drone sooner or later.
