Yes I think this is a big part of it. Kind of like escorts making most of their money going around to business dinners etc with corporate people etc. Or then old people who simply don't have any friends and barely leave the house, they could sure use someone to talk to. But in the end, in each of these cases the client is just fooling themselves more than anyone else.

Yes, I would never consider to be that person. :D There are people for everything, so I would not be surprised if this becomes a profitable business.

Yikes! Am I the only one who finds the notion of someone willing to pay $50/hour for a friend a little more than creepy? And I don't mean the potential perviness, but just plain weirdness of it all.

That said, if there was a service that I could pay $50/hour to not have to interface with some individuals, I'd sign up today. ;)

The only "friends" I've ever paid for on a very few occasions many years ago were rather attractive females. ;)

This is what I thought too about the service rent a friend that someone would be questioning me too if I was paid to hang out with someone. I think that if someone has used this service and has been safe then they are lucky. I saw a Youtube vid of one woman who uses RentAFriend and charges people $20/hr to learn dance moves from her. Funny part was that the site says there is absolutely no touching allowed and that this is not an escort service.

Sorry. Forum won't let me give reputation because I have to spread some around.

I know what you're sayin'. I wish reputation could just be distributed without being restricted like that.

No touching allowed. But most of them break that rule.

I have never even heard of this site. I'm all about making extra cash but I'd never put myself in a situation where I'd be in close proximity with someone desperate enough to pay for a friend to hang out with. We may not even have anything in common. I suppose it's a good service if you're desperate for someone to talk to, but I can't imagine myself ever being hard up enough for cash to actually use it.

I heard about this for the first time the other day and to be honest I think that it is really weird. I am thinking that they screen the persons before you are able to hire them? Think about this lets say that I want a friend and then when I meet this friend he or she is a psychopath how will I give him or her back? Also I really think that you must be really lonely if you are going to go on a website like that just to get some friends.
