I bought in most recently back in late 2012 at $79. Grabbed a couple hundred shares back then, sold off 100 about 6 months ago. I've made 500% in a couple of years or so on this last push on it. Valuations are pretty stretched, so I decided to take some more profits here. I also sold almost all of the small amount of Amazon I still have had, and made some other changes in the last week or so. Have had puts on both of these for a while also.
I think it's great that they are expanding, but do you know what would be even better? If they would expand their title library! They have a lot of kid content, which is the only reason I still subscribe, but they really need to add more stuff for the grown-ups!
This is exactly what I was talking about. It was pretty obvious back a couple of years ago or so that they had some great ideas on how to market their product in different ways. It really paid off for them and from the sounds of it, it really paid off for you too! Congrats. I hope I can keep my eyes peeled a little better and have the courage to take the plunge when I see something interesting.
Yeah, we need to have vision and capital to invest, wait some years and that's money in our pocket, that's the beauty of investing.
It's easy to feel like you missed the boat on Netflix that's for sure. While I'm sure there may be a few more hiccups along the road, it is nice to see they're focusing more on growth and expansion. Realistically, there's such an abundance of content in general that I imagine that will help them get better licensing rates for shows old and new. That said, I know a lot of internet service providers are trying to force a Netflix tax onto its users and even throttling in some case. I imagine as these added costs come in Netflix will continually have to raise their monthly rates.
Service providers can't add costs for Netflix... they can limit the speed and data available to customers but those, along with the possible added costs from going over the limits, are the customers responsibility... not Netflix's. I know that in a lot of countries this exists already in one form or another... the good thing is that we can always change our ISP if we are not happy with their service.
I've been cutting back some on the high flyers such as these, Micron Tech, etc and even a little on Apple. Taking some profits. I bought a little CyberArk on the recent selloff.
Maybe you can call it wishful thinking, but I really think that Netflix is going to expand heavily. I have this feeling that they are going to become more than just a streaming service. It may or may not be based on hard facts currently, but I have a really good feeling about Netflix.
