The Islamic State has made the using of cellphones in their "caliphate" illegal. Could it be because they are scared their 'citizens' can relay information they don't want leaked to others who may then strike only positions where their fighters are stationed? The punishment for such crimes? Men are flogged while women have their hands chopped off.

To be quite frank, I think trying to apply any real world logic or common sense to the actions of these barbarians is frankly a thankless task. For example, is the hypocrisy lost on them when it comes to using mobiles (which I imagine is part of an overall ban on electrical goods)? Here we have a barbaric 'organisation' utilising the latest in telecommunications to carry their message and yet they ban people from having/using the tools that may help them spread that message further??

Fools with a severe case of God complex.

There's certainly no logic or reason when it comes to ISIS, that's for sure. Looking at the article, it seems they have also banned music and cigarettes too. So these are shameful but it's perfectly OK to go round chopping people's heads off?

I am certainly not surprised to hear anything about ISIS hurting or killing anyone. It seems to be their only MO. I think it's especially nice how they whip the men and remove the body parts of their women. I wonder if they even give them any kind of medical care after they chop off their limbs?

In the "Caliphate" women have no rights. Heck, they've been auctioning off women like it was done in ages long forgotten. I don't know if it's Islam which advocates for the oppression of women or if it's those who interpret their law that make it so. Their double standards and hypocrisy disgust me. If both have committed "crimes" then punishment should be equal. If it's flogging then let all be flogged.

I don't care to discuss Sharia in combination with extremists located in Syria and Iraq. That's a safety net to avoid looking at a bigger issue with causes deeply rooted in a government that's corrupt and had past help from powerful western allies to keep brutality against their citizens going. It's not as black and white as it may seem and I certainly do not discount the help these governments received in the past that inevitably came back to haunt them as terrorism appears to multiply by the minute in some cities in Syria and Iraq. It's not surprising that these governments would outlaw the use of certain cellphones to control a population. History has always shown governments all over the world taking drastic actions to stop ordinary citizens from fighting back against authority.

Well said Rainman! Why should the men only get flogged and the women get their hands chopped off? I guess you can't argue or see logic in a backwards society though. It is a shame that the people can't use cell phones and give us all a real indication of what is going on over there. For some of these reasons, I would never visit the region because I would be scared of possible punishment for doing nothing wrong. I have a co worker that spend a year or so in the middle east, don't remember exactly what city, but he was telling me that during Ramadan, even non Muslims have to follow the rules of no eating or drinking. He said that the temperature was over 100 degrees and he was unable to drink water except for at home, or risk getting thrown in jail. I just don't understand the logic behind any of their rules or laws so I quit trying. It is much easier just to shake my head in amazement.

ISIS is the epitome of evil. Sadly, they are just following an extreme offshoot of Islam. You see a lot of this type of behavior in the Islamic world. ISIS just takes it a step further. They are too extreme and evil for organizations like Al Qaeda, who we all know if capable of incredible evil themselves. That should tell you how bad the Islamic State really is. Hopefully they won't be able to hit us here on our home land.
