From all that I have heard and from most of the research that I have done it seems to me like they are a really good company and many people use them. So I think that if you want you could try them out and if it really does not work out then you could always close your account and move on.
I used eTrade some years back. They were reputable and their trading platform wasn't bad. I ended up moving the funds elsewhere, but could see using them again. YMMV.
