Wow, JadeDoo, thank you for such a comprehensive answer! I can also sort of figure out where the knowledge of meteorology plays into this. I will start studying this in my free time (although I don't think I can start investing in this until maybe in my mid-20's)
It is kinda true, if you can predict a heavy snow storm/ extreme cold winter coming in the next few months, then you can bet on the price of heating oil. but that is a very big IF.
I guess if you want to put in the research you could turn a good profit. Almanacs, long term weather predictions, etc. I'm sort of interested to check this out, hmm.
But would it be profitable enough for the risk of being wrong? I think there are safer investments that don't pose as much risk and probably turn out higher profit margins.
It might be true but changes in temperatures don't affect to the prizes as much. It would be really risky to think that its easy as ABC to make money by this.
I think JR ewing speaks sound words of a man with experience. We get too anxious when we are first starting out. We don't want to miss an opportunity.
Anxiety is OK, we just can't rush into things, we need to think it wisely not to make mistakes and lose our money. If we do our homework we will be fine.
Thanks for the kind words. Yes, unchecked emotions are detrimental to investing. Fear, greed, and ego need to be controlled.
I wouldn't say it's pretty sure. It just sounds like one of those "make-fast-money" sayings from so-called gurus. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it's definitely not that easy.
I know pretty close to zero when it comes to the stock market. But I have read about people who also have substantial knowledge of the weather, which enables them to make great investments in commodities... In their case, corn, wheat, etc. But I'm clever enough has a rookie to realize this isn't the path of least resistance. I'm trying to learn about the stock market and now I got to learn about meteorology too? Still... If you have them Benjamins pilling up in your house, why no throw them into some oils and stuff?
