Who has ranked this top 10? What is the source, I'd like to know. Or are these your recommendations.

Thanks a lot. I'm just surprised that there are no those guys from Cyprus on this top 10 list. They've helped me out a great deal, and they're always available for asking them a question.

What kind of brokers are you listing here? These look like stock brokers? What about Forex brokers and Futures brokers? What criteria did you use to select these for your top 10 list?

I always try and validate research with 1 or 2 independent and reputable sources. With something as important as finding the best online broker that will be the right fit for me and for my family, I turned to the following websites:

    1. NerdWallet, specifically: http://www.nerdwallet.com/investing/best-online-broker I love this page because it allows you to literally compare the pros and cons of major brokerage firms. On the left side of the page, you will a bar where you can toggle with different criteria. IF you want the opinion of staff bloggers at NerdWallet, you can go to http://www.nerdwallet.com/blog/investing/best-online-brokers/stock-trading-accounts/ for a list of their personal favorite online brokerage accounts.

    2. Forbes, specifically: http://www.forbes.com/sites/chrisbarth/2012/08/29/finding-the-right-online-broker/. This article proved invaluable to me as it provided information about the importance of vetting the online broker you are going to use prior to investing with them. Forbes even took a step forther and has compiled a specific website with links to help you find the appropriate broker for you. You can visit the website here: http://www.forbes.com/special-report/2012/brokerage-firms/finding-the-right-broker.html

How did you put this top 10 together? Personal recommendations?
At least give a quick description of each one.

Is this list pulled from the web? Could have sworn I saw the same list somewhere. How many of these have you used, and if it's not copied from somewhere else, how did you determine in which order they should go?

It's what people do. They copy other sources an use the info as their own. Obviously this person didn't create this list on his/her own. If they did, they would have included info with the links.

Yeah great post. Copy the top 10 from another website and that's it...

I really don't think any single investor could even do a top 10, as at some point you'd find one which you are comfortable with (for me that's IB) and stick to that. I could do a top 2 based on my investing experience.

I tried that nerdwallet one just for fun... to see what they would recommend me. Adjusted it for my own needs and their "best" one is scottrade at $40 per month for the amount of trades I do.

Currently I'm with IB and I've never paid more than $10 for a month...
