How much does landscaping really add to a property?

    Just out of curiosity, how much does landscaping really add to the value of a home? We have a fairly new home with no yard, yet. I want to invest our money in the right area of the home.

    Usually landscape adds a lot. I really can't put a number with it, but I can give an example. If you have a small well taken care yard that will attract a lot more people, especially with kids.

    I know quite a few people who live in an upscale subdivision that requires everyone set aside an additional 10% of the value of their home for landscaping. A $600k home requires $60k worth of landscaping be done / maintained.

    landscaping definitely adds resale value to any property, but the increasing environmental awareness has made people shifting to green living style. This translates in the quest of living spaces with terraces, gardens or yards,

    Thus, besides adding value, landscaping can get your home selling faster once your property hits a real estate list.

    Yep, I agree with that, I know real estate agents that ask if the house has an outside space and if it doesn't they are simply are not interested. I think that more and more people appreciate an outdoor space.

    I don't think you really appreciate the value of landscaping until you've experienced both sides of the experience.
    Having lived with and without it, it has some real value and quality of life.

    Curb appeal goes a long way in attracting the right clientele, and landscaping is a major factor in that. When I'm looking at properties, I tend to look at three things: the cars in the neighborhood, the yards in the neighborhood, and the landscaping of the specific property I'm checking out. It's like a first impression, really.

    Curb Appeal! This could be a deal breaker or a deal maker just depending on the buyer. It could very well be what draws the attention of the buyer to your property. With that being said it could add ALOT of value!

    It depends on how large the lot is, but yes, overall, it would add to the value of the property. However, I would say it also depends on the perspective of the buyer. If the buyer is the type who would prefer condominiums because they don't prefer having to maintain a garden or the landscape, then no matter how nice or huge your garden and landscape is, that person won't be attracted to the property and the value of the property is not that high for him. But yes, overall, in terms of price, a house with a landscape is much more expensive, but this is more of the fact that there is an additional lot aside from the house.

    I can't put a number on it, but I will tell you that it adds a lot. Even if the number is not high, it adds so much to the curb appeal of the house. I mean it could be the difference in selling the house or not selling the house. I mean you can landscape yourself for a very low cost as well, that is the good thing about it.
