It seems quite a few major companies are trying to ape Facebook and falling flat on their face in the process, with Twitter becoming the latest to join this trend like JaydonTyler mentioned. I feel they should instead focus on their strengths, which are mobile, portability and the 'follow' model.
Yeah, sometimes we forget what our strengths are, we forget to stick to the plan and the result is that we fall flat on our face.
That's exactly it, if Twitter can't make a profit with it's core business, trying to copy the competition is a risky business, it can go well or they can... tank!
Oh, that's what the thread title refers to! I was wondering what it meant, I could only think of military tanks... Sheesh, I'm having a slow day.
Wow I had no idea about Twitter! Social media started to take off back in 2004 I think with Myspace? I remember when to register for you could only register if you were in college and had your campus email address. I think that changed in around 07 and it allowed any email address to be used. I'm really interested to see where social media will be in 10 years. I was under the impression that Twitter was pretty large because now on a lot of television programs they show Tweets from fans during the show, and a lot of times on a show you hear the host mention follow me on Twitter. So is it a good time to buy Twitter stock? Or should you just follow it and try to watch what it does for the next month or so ?
I'm not surprised at all. No matter how popular Twitter is, they don't generate any money and I imagine they have a lot of expenses with staff and servers.
They don't generate money, does that mean it's a free service to use? Do they make money through adds? Does anyone make money in the company? Who runs and operates the company? This is interesting to me because I have no clue how that works.
They generated $250 mil in revenue in Q1. Their revenue growth is very strong, but they have negative earnings and very weak negative margins. They've recently tanked because the 6 month insider lockup period just ended, and insiders have sold off, others have followed, and shorts have piled on. I have a put on this one and just took a small speculative long position - which means I think it will move sharply, but that I have no idea in which direction.
I just checked the numbers for today and right now its: $31.72 with a 52 week range of: $29.51-74.73
