I live in the UK so I haven't planned or even thought about my healthcare either. Further down the line then I think everybody at some point is going to have to have a loot at the situation but for now I'm happy enough to take it day by day, and worry about that when it happens.

pwarbi, I think that in countries like yours where there is nationalized healthcare, the planning you need to do isn't necessarily financial. You don't have to worry so much about the cost becoming exorbitant. I think in your situation, the most important thing is figuring out how to receive the day to day help you would need to stay in your home or the home of a relative, since you have a much better chance of living longer and happier than if you need to be placed in a nursing home. In the early days of old age it can be an arrangement with neighbors to check in on you a couple of times a week and a phone call from a relative every day. As your mobility goes down and you get a little forgetful, having the neighbor stop by daily to make sure you've taken your medicine and there isn't anything on a high shelf that you need taken down. Eventually you may need someone living with you and preparing meals, or you may want to move in with younger relatives.

These aren't plans you need to make very far in advance, but just thinking about what your needs may be based on your parents' and grandparents' experiences with aging can be helpful.
