I've read that taxi companies are legally challenging Uber. Supposedly their drivers are regulated by the individual cities that they operate in. They do have a case for that, so stay tuned.

I've started driving Uber to earn extra money and that's not entirely true. You have to register all your information and have your vehicle pass an inspection at designated centers in order to start driving for them.

That said, it really is the new way for public transport. Prices are always way cheaper on uber rides, because the drivers are private contractors, and you often will be in a far more comfortable vehicle during your ride than in a taxi. Paying is also really easy as its all done through the app. I've enjoyed my experience so far as it allows me to keep a flexible schedule and earn money at pretty much anytime of the day I feel like.

Yes, they lost their monopoly and they have turned to justice, but I don't see the situation going back to what it was, Uber has all the right to exist and it's not breaking any laws.

What I meant with mere cars is Uber vehicles are not designed for public transport which are registered in the Land Transportation Office. But I understand your point that Uber vehicles are inspected and registered also in their dominion all for the safety of the passengers, of course. By the way, the mode of payment in Uber is by credit card only, cash is not allowed (although I tipped the driver with cash). I'd say this innovation is a great thing for the riding public since taxicabs are really hard to find. And it is an insult when you flag down an empty cab whose driver will ask of your destination... and leave you just like that.

That is true, but Uber is putting a lot of people in tight financial situations, so I totally understand what the stink is.

It should not be easy that is a fact because taxi drivers are losing their income, I totally understand that. At the same time Uber drivers aren't doing anything illegal, so we cannot blame them as well.

Taxi drivers are on commission? I thought they had a salary with benefits and everything else?

That's the major difference with Uber drivers and taxi drivers. You're on your own as an Uber driver for health care, benefits, pension, etc. That's why they're able to offer rides at cheaper rates than taxi companies. Although that might change if a law is passed requiring Uber to provide health care for its drivers. That would make prices a lot more comparable between lift services and taxis.

Even when they have a salary, if the company paying them doesn't have clients, they need to let them go, that is inevitable! I see Uber drivers as people making extra money, for many is still a part-time.

How is this different from taxi's though? The taxi driver is also a person, right?

I have been curious about working for this company since I first saw an ad for them about a year ago. Can you provide any information concerning the requirements and how to get to be a driver?? It seems like such a great idea to just connect the people needing a ride with the people willing to drive for a fee. I am always looking for these types of opportunities as the mainstream income sources become less lucrative and more frustrating. It seems the good ol' days have gone by the wayside when you could count on your employer to help you grow into retirement as long as you remained productive...
