About the death penalty... I wish we could just exile our prisoners into the Phantom Zone like General Zod in Superman. LOL. I don't think anyone deserves to die too, the death penalty is such an old world construct. They should put prisoners to work or have more lenient sentences to drug addicts/pushers. Those guys need help not incarceration.

I wouldn't say I'm against the death penalty I just prefer a criminal to rot in prison. I feel that ending a criminal 's life with the death penalty is to fast and easy. They should spend their whole life in prison and be miserable.

I just dont see how some folks can support abortion but at the same time be against giving the lowest of the low in our society the ultimate punishment. A serial killer should be kept alive? A child murderer or rapist? I understand wanting to make sure people who are being put to death are guilty.

The problem is that there have already been cases where a person was put to death, and then found out he was innocent. Once it happens just one time, the liberals have a weapon.

there is a comedian that follows Jeff Foxworthy around.. one of my favorite jokes from him was about Texas.. something like ´ While the rest of the country is banning the death penalty, Texas added and express lane for people who committed a murder in front of 3 or more witnesses.

The things that happened to innocent people in the fictional Bronson flicks have unfortunately happened to real people in real life countless times. Just see the link I posted in the same post as evidence of such real life animals being all too real, unfortunately.

I don't feel the least bit of sympathy when such scum is executed in real life - whether by the system, or by a loved one of victims of such scum.

    There it is again!
This idea that if you don't support state sanctioned murder, you're a "liberal."
I think you just use this word as a weapon against anyone who doesn't support your view.
I see the government as a mechanism to run a country.
I want to give them as little power over us a possible, I want to spend as little money as possible.
I want them to interfere in the lives of private citizens as little as possible.
    Textbook conservative (okay, quasi-libertarian) values.
Explain to me how giving them the power to end a life is not a liberal value.
It's as liberal as it gets!

There will always be talk of "liberal" and "conservative" as long as the party system is in existence. Talking about war, guns, or abortion will all yield similar results to this discussion. There's such a rift between the parties, and I firmly believe that if we were to have more middle-of-the-road candidates, we wouldn't be able to place a label on certain opinions. It wouldn't be a party thing, but it would be a candidate thing.

In general, right wings are seen as more willing to fight, with guns, war, and death. The media always portrays this group as ruthless. I'm not saying I agree or disagree, yet it's the way it is.

As for my own personal opinions, and I fall on the "liberal" side of things in general, I hate the jail system to begin with. Those incarcerated live a better life than homeless people on the street, and it costs millions upon millions to keep them in jail. I personally believe in some rehabilitation that should be attempted for the inmates, but that's neither here nor there. If you want to kill someone on the death penalty, you better be 100% certain that the person is guilty. Too many innocents have died because of a shoddy trial.

Because you wasted your chance at life by ending other's. Life is sacred, and if you deem it appropriate to murder another human being, you do not value life and you deserve to die. It is the ultimate justice, and it probably does act as a deterrent for people who haven't yet committed a crime. Plus, it is a right-wing issue because it is a Biblical principal, and many people on the Right still believe in the Bible.
You defile your own humanity by murdering someone. You deserve to be killed when you do. In ultra liberal Norway, Anders Brevik will be a free man in about 15 years after massacring dozens of people. They have a 20 year maximum jail sentence. They are a suicidal culture. Absolutely pathetic they would let him free. Europeans are crazy.

I consider myself to be basically a liberal on most issues...however, I do think the death penalty is warranted in some situations. I think some crimes involving rape, torture etc. deserve the message that only the death penalty can serve. I guess right wingers have the reputation of an eye for an eye tooth for a tooth. However, they also are people who tend to have strong religious convictions, and Jesus, did not support the "death penalty." Although somewhere in the bible it does state the wages for sin is death.

I am ok honestly with death sentence for major crimes like mass killing or sometime more dangerous for the whole community but it seems like it's not the way I guess. I mean the country where the death sentence is still a law such crimes still happening so I wouldn't say that this method really works but I don't what else could be done though.
