People are just disappointed with politics and politicians because the system has lost contact with the population. I feel they only see personal and private interests and not the best interests of the people they should be representing.

This is a really great subject to discuss and was a consistent topic of conversation in my political science and public affairs journalism classes at Michigan State University. The question was always about how to keep young people involved in politics. I think overall, at least from my experiences, young people do care, but don't posses a ton of knowledge about current political affairs unless they're involved in some way. For example, I had a group of friends who worked with me at various internships at the Michigan Capitol, interning for representatives or lobbying groups or communications firms in the areas. This group, naturally, was always talking about politics and what was going on. But if we were to be around some of our other friends not actually involved like we are, they likely didn't engage because they had this feeling that they didn't know enough.

Politics has always been dirty and tricky in my own point of view. I see some of the youth of today who are actively involved with political issues while some are the exact opposite. I just think that the interest in politics really depends on one's knowledge and confidence in the system, be it a young individual or a much older one. I myself am no longer considered young but I also lose my trust and confidence with politics and the people in it. I guess we really can't blame people who lose heart with all the corruption and crooked governance of most politicians. Elections are again coming soon and we as citizens are again encouraged to vote. It will be another beginning of promises from all the politicians who want to govern. I just hope, everyone including the youth would think many times before casting their precious vote for the one who they think deserves it.

It is true that a lot of young people are shying away from politics, both representational politics and the simple act of voting. I know because as a young person, I presently have no interest in voting in my country. Although, it's good to exercise my right to vote, I believe that if I am voting I should have confidence in the person I am voting for. That is where the major issue lies. Many politicians are unreliable and cannot be trusted. These are the ones that shed a negative light on politics so I have no confidence in them, or their promises.

When I was younger I really didn't care about politics. All I cared about was having a job and paying my bills on time, and having a cold beer on the weekends. Now that I'm older and getting closer to retirement and my health coming into question, I'm getting into politics a whole lot more. When you are young, you just want to be free and enjoy yourself. Politics was never on our minds. But now that there is a democratic candidate that is talking about free pubic college education, I'm sure young people will want to hear more about that. Bernie Sanders could very well take it if he hits all of the colleges now, and let his message be known.

You hear a lot about politics in the news and social media because that's where the Millenial generation/young adults usually hang out. I actually think it's good that they're talking about the debates and the elections a lot because it goes to show that the youth is still active and invested in the government.

yeah, I think that with social media being a big thing nowadays, young people are actually far more interested in politics than ever because it's so easy to access information and discuss it with others. At least that's what I've seen.

I think there is 2 reasons.
    1) It's become too complicated, once you really start getting into the meat of things there is plenty of homework to be done to get a good understanding of policy. Most people find policy super boring. The only "exciting" part about politics is the sensationalism around non-issues.
    2) Most promises made are never kept (in every country by every politician.) This has even made me cynical. Why bother putting your name and vote behind people if you already know they are going to be deceiving to you. Most young people are more focused on their own lives and careers.

Not really. Not after Kanye West announced that he will run for president in 2020. Not to forget 'Deez Nuts'. To tell you the truth, I would rather vote for Kanye West and 'Deez Nuts' than vote for some of these candidates like Donald Trump.

It's crucially important that our millions of younger generation should take part in making moral judgement regarding deeds or actions of politicians, organizations lobbyists and towards their present governing leader. Our young people should engage in making critical thinking and reasoning beyond what is told them!

I also feel so strongly about our youths receiving education against drugs and strongly avoiding them. Statistics show a large number of "drugged" youth-- whose mental, moral and emotional judgement are compromised.

If the corrupt government is too ingrained in their ways, I think, it's about time that citizens should reward themselves with doing something about their unalienable rights to make a better country their ancestral forefathers fought for!
