Hey there. I'm using the HTC 620. It's a lovely phone in my experience and I haven't had any problems with it so far. What phones do you guys own (or hope to own)?

Phones are commodity items, and selections are limited by the carrier unless you buy an unlocked unit. That said, I would recommend picking one with the latest 64-bit quad-core processor (if not an 8-core) and upsize the memory to at least 64 GB. I replaced a 4 year old dual-core earlier this year, and the download speed and app launches are incredibly fast.

New phones -- except for Apple that does its own thing whenever Tim Cook and company feels like it -- are typically announced and exhibited at the annual Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona; the next one is February 22-26, 2016. Those new products typically appear in the carriers' stores between late March and May. If you are looking for the latest and greatest in your next purchase, wait to see what the MWC reveals. Live coverage is typically offered by Bloomberg West, C|Net, and BBC's show "Click" (among others). If you are looking to save money, this is time of the year to look for closeout pricing of models being discontinued or upgraded.

FWIW, the Sony Xperia Z5 (http://www.phonearena.com/phones/Sony-Xperia-Z5_id9550)) released this month has the market-dominant Snapdragon 810 processor. But what attracted my attention to the ad for same was the camera's huge pixel count: 23 megapixels! Just sayin' as I'm not changing my S6 for a few years.

    HTH. YMMV.

I have never really been a cell phone guy, but I have a new job opportunity on the table and if it works out, I will probably have to upgrade. What I will be looking for is not the newest model, but the best value I can get that includes the necessary features. The opportunity is in sales, so I will obviously need most of the tech options available, but I am not looking to show off with the latest and greatest, just a get the job done model is more my speed. My wife just got a samsung 5 for a dollar and seems to be pretty happy with it, so maybe I will go that route, but if anyone has any suggestions, they would be appreciated.

At the moment I'm using the HTC ONE M9 and ice had it from new so it's only a few months old. I have to say its probably the best phone I've ever had, and I've had a lot in my time.

I have an ****** 5S and I actually really enjoy it. My only complaint is the storage, and that's mostly my fault because I am an image and music hoarder.

I've thought about making the switch from ****** to HTC or Android. Would you recommend it?

This is just a general question, but why are Apple products automatically blocked out whenever I type them?

It's a conspiracy countermeasure to CNBC's endless hype of the iOS ecosystem.

Hmm, well currently I just have a crappy LG tracphone. I lost my smartphone and this is what I am left with. Anyway. It is OK, it does the basics. I am not a cellphone fanatic type of person. I am just happy to have a cell to use for boredom and emergency purposes.. oh and the other... Random text messages encouraging me to buy more minutes etc.

I am still using an old Samsung model, not even a smartphone, but I am not rushing into it. I can access technology from other devices, so no real issue in that.
