Ceding ground to Russia. Again. The U.S thought the best way to end the Syrian war was to train "moderate rebels" who would then fight extremist militia's and Bashar's army. To my understanding, the US still intends to supply the rebels with equipment. Whereas Saudi Arabia are supporting the rebels in terms of both equipment and finances. Then again, it's hard to say in all this as to who's doing what, but it's certainly a mess over there. I don't know if it's propaganda or what, but there's also the suggestion that the Russian's aren't necessarily bombing ISIS and instead are primarily striking at rebels. With the rebels in a weakened state, ISIS swoops into towns and villages. So to some degree, the chaos may actually be beneficial for ISIS over there.
The best option I suppose seeing as Russia is bombing anything and everything opposed to the Assad regime. I do agree that the U.S should have held talks with Russia to work together and fight the common enemy that is ISIS while worrying about other stuff later. I still hope that they do start working together but I think I'm being a little optimistic...
