A number of Catholics believe Pope Francis is a heretic and non-Catholics think he is the false prophet.

    And there's a lot more that's he's said . . .

I think pope Francis is probably the most down to earth pope the Catholic church as had in a long time and while that might not please a lot of catholics, I think for everybody else he's comes as a breath of fresh air, and he's willing to challenge some of the long standing, outdated views that the church seems to cling on to.

Here in the UK, the Catholic church has a terrible reputation after several cases of sexual abuse involving orphanages and schools run by them came to light. Pope Francis and his progressive ways seems to be doing a lot to turn things around.

The thing I never understood about Catholicism was it's insistence that sinners will burn in that hot firey place downstairs. Now, didn't Jesus love everyone and forgive all sinners? So it's good to read that PF tries to get this message across.

Not really. In Mattew 5:17, Jesus strongly approves of the law and the prophets. He hasn't the slightest objection to the cruelties of the Old Testament.
If you really get to study the Bible, Jesus isn't exactly a people's person.

Jesus does approve of the law and Prophets but He also did more than that. Remember the story of the adulterer who by law was supposed to be stoned? What was Jesus response? He demanded that those who thought they had not sin, should stone the woman first. No one did. And He too, didn't judge the woman.
He didn't come to judge. He came to seek and save the lost.

I think the reputation of the catholic church is at an all-time low across the world and not just in the UK to be honest and with some of the scandals and stories that have come out its no surprise.

I'm not sure how long it will take, or if the faith ever can be restored, but one step in the right direction is to admit the failings and show it's willing to accept the mistakes of the past.

I doubt that the Catholic church will ever change and when they do it will because they are going to gain something from it. Centuries ago, Catholics changed commandments to accommodate pagan beliefs [bowing down to and worshiping statues of gods/saints] because they wanted the pagans to convert to Catholicism so they could collect more money. I have no doubt that they'll do the same in future if they haven't already started.

“When we read about creation in Genesis, we run the risk of imagining God was a magician, with a magic wand able to do everything. But that is not so,” Francis said. “He created human beings and let them develop according to the internal laws that he gave to each one so they would reach their fulfillment.”

Just because the pope said you will get to heaven, doesn't mean you will get there. The pope maybe the attorney/ advocate but God is the judge and the jury.

One thing most people don't know about the Pope and his title: Vicar of Jesus Christ. It is a bold and blasphemous claim that the Pope stands in the place of Jesus on earth. Even though Catholics might believe the lies, though the truth might be distorted one thing everyone should know is that when Jesus left He promised His disciples He'd come back and be with them forever. He didn't say, he'd have some human represent HIM.

That is the tradition of Catholics that all other Christian sect couldn't belie - the Pope is the successor of Jesus Christ in the hierarchy of leadership. The Catholic church has solid proof that the apostle Peter succeeded Jesus and later on passed the baton of leadership to other faithful disciples until the Catholic church was organized. In the annals of the Vatican, Saint Peter is the first pope. And if that is debatable to others, I would say relax, chill out, there were so many ahead of us who tried but failed to rebut that. Even the Jehovah's Witnesses have no match for the proof.
