Actually I don't see this as particularly engaging, I would prefer to go for a cheap house by the beach, but these are harder to come by. :)

Cheap houses these days are hard to come by whichever location you want to but my one, depending where in the world you live of course.

The set route of starting off small, moving to bigger, then in retirement back to small again as long gone I think.

In the rural area usually cheap houses do exist a lot, especially when we are comparing them to the houses in the big cities. Even the houses by the beach tend to be cheaper than in the big cities.

Here in the UK a lot also depends on the location and part of the country your living in.

Even an house in a big city such as Manchester or Newcastle can be a lot cheaper than the same properties you'll find in London or in the south.

The downside in London is the density of the population and the traffic. From what I gathered, it is like Metro Manila which is more of a business area than a residential - I mean it is more appropriate for business. That is why I created this thread because we are thinking of retiring in the suburbs where there is no traffic and no congestion. However, one disadvantage of living in the suburbs is the culture. You have to be accepted by all the neighbors otherwise you may experience some sort of harassment.
