I'm inclined to think that the concept of hell is indeed a scare tactic. A tactic invented to keep the masses in line. Come to think of it, the concept of heaven probably served the very same purpose.

I've read the Bible more times than I can recall in, at least, two languages. Curiously, the "good book" has surprisingly little to say about the heavenly abode. It is actually remarkably vague on such location.

Beyond that, there has been plenty of pious believers, saints, cranks, kooks, and wackadoodles over the millennia that claim to have gone to heaven (or hell, purgatory, or elsewhere) and have come back to tell us all about it. Some were undoubtedly well meaning, while others were full of it and knew it. Do I believe them? Well, no, without evidence how can I. Though some of the accounts are interesting.

The bible contains a good deal about heaven in my King James Bible it is mentioned over 500 times. That said I don't find Christmas or Easter mentioned in it at all. Yet every year I am cajoled and bullied into celebrating these holydays by everyone around me of all denominations creeds and religions...

Heaven seems too good to be true. Nonetheless, obviously, I hope it's a reality. Shockingly, if you look at Physics, many discoveries have lent credibility to the idea that what we think is real, really isn't. For instance, there are things like parallel universes and dark matter.

I consider Heaven is another dimension around us. When he says some get stuck in lower dimensions, I believe he mean lower planes in the dimension. It's a bit like a hotel with different floors. Some people never make it past the lobby for various reasons; fear or maybe they don't believe.

I'm not sure it is 'up there' where people point, I feel it is around us and we point upwards because we like to place it somewhere and upwards indicates ascension and growth, rather than below. People always want to go up as it is parallel with achievements and growth.

That's actually a really eye-opening way to look at it. Deep down at some point in a persons life they have feared the reaper and the thought of going on to a better place puts those fears to rest (even if slightly), while the idea of going to a terrible place like hell for doing bad things in life is an incentive to live a life of doing good things and as you say keep people in line.

Very eye-opening way to look at it.

That's an interesting way of looking at things. We often talk about people "going up in the world" and describe immoral actions as being "low" or "base". Maybe the concept of getting to heaven through good acts and deeds relates to simply getting where you want to be in life. Maybe "hell" refers to the bad times in life, feeling guilty or troubled. Who knows? Interesting food for thought there though.

I think heaven is a beautiful peaceful place. A place i get to see all my lost loved ones and animals. Also I hope in heaven I will be able to spend way more time with my son than I have gotten to on earth where no one can take him away from me. And heaven would be a place with no more pain or tears and no sin. And we finally get to meet God. It's more than I ca even imagine.

I've been getting into a way of thinking lately that a heaven and hell are things in life you can experience. Like if you're doing something you're really enjoying and are feeling pretty content, could you not say that at that moment you are experiencing heaven? And to the opposite end of the scale where you're either agitated, scared or something along the lines, you could say you're in hell in that moment?

I think that there's some place we go to after we die, what it is, I'm not really sure of. Though I would love to believe in a Heaven, it just seems to be a nice place after all. I am a Catholic and I think heaven is mostly said during homily by priests here. So they really do believe in it. But for me? I think heaven is what we make of our lives on Earth. Whether we live as good people or as bad people, that is our heaven and hell.
