What makes a woman? Appears that sex change surgery doesn't transform someone into a woman. Tara Hudson [who assaulted someone last Christmas] has undergone gender reconstruction for 6 years but will be spending the next 12 weeks in a male prison because her ID says she is still a man. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/woman-born-man-sent-male-6711269 Her daughter, huh? But she's got a point though. Woman or not, Tara won't be safe in a male prison.
Come on, this is absurd right? So he's a woman now and he's sent to a male prison? Of course she won't be safe!!
You have to wonder what the reason is behind the assault. And does she deserve to get raped and who is responsible if she does?
No matter what people's opinions are on a story like this, there can't be any doubt that they're going to be at risk in a male prison environment. Surely the whole point of prison is for punishment and rehabilitation, and in an environment like this, I'm not sure how much rehabilitation is going to exist when they're out in these circumstances.
That definitely isn't right. They know sending her to an all male prison is only asking for trouble for her and her well being. This definitely should not be happening. She is definitely at a huge risk.
There's no such thing as a woman born a man or vice versa. You are what you are born as. You cannot change your gender. Your DNA is your DNA. I wish people would stop treating people who want to change their sex as if they are normal. It's a mental illness. We shouldn't demonize them, but you have to get them help and stop treating it as if it's just a normal thing.
OK, so going by your way of thinking, this person hasn't been helped. Does that mean that they should be incarcerated in a place where they will be subject to daily abuse (and not just verbal) and probably come out more violent and angry than when they went in? Or should they be incarcerated in a place which is conducive to their rehabilitation?
It sounds like whoever was prosecuting was either doing things by the book or found a loophole, in regards to the ID saying she is still a man. In any case, I do not think it's right that she has been sent to a male prison because she is most defiantly not male any more if she has had a sex change and medically she is not seen as a male any more. There are going to be a lot of risks open to her and I do feel quite bad for her, but then again I find myself thinking that if you can't do the time, then don't do the crime...
More than 55,000 people have signed a petition to move the "woman" from the male prison. Maybe this will help her. At times people can do things without forethought and regret having done something wrong. Yes they should be punished for their crime but thrusting such a person into a place where they'll suffer not only ridicule but also other forms of physical abuse is inhumane.
I hope he/she is in protective custody. That woman will be such a target. It would be safer for her in solitary isolation than in the general population for sure. Maybe in a minimum security prison she might be OK but certainly not in a moderate or maximum security prison with violent offenders.
