    The US has had past immigrants work out but the recent immigrants assimilate right into society over time. I know my grandparents were fluent in Italian and now can't even remember a few Italian words! Now we have everything in two languages.

    It's what makes me sad about this and I really think Merkel has done some serious damage to her country. Every day I'm hearing more people are starting to change their tune over her and the whole "refugees welcome" stance.

    It's sad but it's probably gonna take something akin to what happened in Frnace to happen before Merkel admits she made a massive boo-boo.

    The problem is she can't send them back now, because there is no where for them to go back to. Maybe they could shuttle them to Turkey? If Merkel is quiet it's because she knows she will be criticized. The communities that will be affected will not see drastic changes until later, in a couple of years when housing, jobs, and schools will become an issue.

    Thereafter no doubt that Merkel as made a huge mistake here and while in the beginning, her opening up the borders and letting so many so called refugees in was looked at as an act of compassion, what she didn't do was show the same compassion to the people she's supposed to represent, the German people.

    She has announced that any sexual attackers could face deportation;

    However, could and will are different things. Where will they go? What if they have families? That's one of the oldest tricks, saying they can't split up the family and enabling them to stay. I am all for humanitarianism, but there has to be a limit. I imagine some will be fathers, or brothers who will be the sole bread winner and must stay. This ruse has been used so many times, and I hope the Germans don't fall for it.

    I believe, If you are staying in another country, you must respect their culture and understand your limit and never cross that. and about such criminal activities, It is shameful. I hope , before deporting, Angela Merkel, Give 1 blank paper to them to write essay on topic, why man must respect woman ? they are mentally poor people, writing essay is very difficult task for them than punishment. after they wrote essay, try to understand their mindset and then deport them.

    What should happen is they should be deported regardless if they do have a family. It might be seen as harsh but they've got no-one to blame but themselves.

    If I think about this more, I can see nothing much happening over it other than some stern words saying it was wrong. The mayor of Cologne is already pretty much side-stepping the issue and telling people how to prevent further sexual assaults from happening.

    The following weeks should show how Germany handles this.

    I expect there will be more protests and people will be less tolerant or any refugees. Seriously all of this was predicted, none of this is a surprise (surprise it's happened so fast), because history tells us that this occurs when cultures clash with mass immigration. There is no time for them to be vetted or to learn how to integrate (as some refuse) and this leads to cultural conflicts and crimes.

    When I first heard about this it was pretty disturbing. What is crazy is exactly what OP said about the victim blaming going on in the local government. One of the representatives said something to the effect that it might be time for women to stop wearing short skirts lol. That's an insane way to think. Perhaps all women should cover their legs, arms, and faces like in the middle east.

    People are getting angry over this and I was reading this morning some people are setting up vigilante groups aimed at protecting women from further attacks. I'm also starting to think that the elephant in the room here is the word Rotherham, as in no one wants their own version of it to happen.
